Moving to Chennai in February 2011

Post by craj »

Hi,

We are moving to Chennai in February 2011. Have two kids 7yrs and 4yrs. We will be living in Anna Nagar. The schools we have in mind are

1.SBOA CBSE
2.Bhavans Rajaji Vidhyashram CBSE [previously called Bharathya Vidhya Bhavan] - Kilpauk
3.Chinmaya Vidhyalaya CBSE
4.A school - Anna Nagar West
5.Chennai public school [in worst case]

Will SBOA be okay for R2I kids?? Most of my friends suggest Bhavans better than SBOA but only problem is Bhavans would be 6km drive from the place we would stay whereas SBOA just 2km.

And any idea about 'A' School to be started in Mogappair. We visited it's other branches in Anna Nagar but they don't have class 3.

Thanks for your replies. Will be helpful

Based on the feedback that I gathered, SBOA isn't "up to the mark". They've become more "money minded" and doesn't maintain any standard with the admission process.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya is good. I don't know much about Bhavans & A-School (Chettinad group). Why not DAV Anna Nagar? I heard that DAV Anna Nagar is good.

Chennai Public School is a new one (I was quite amazed by their infrastructure). Not sure how good their teaching is. I know they charge Rs.75K for KG. No donation / no black money. All in white.

We are moving in March/April 2011 to Nolambur. I studied in SBOA. I hear that the school is still very good but the only issue is with the class strength. They have 50 students in a class with 10 sections.
Are you considering Schram Academy? DAV is the best but getting admissions for standards higher than LKG is almost impossible. For LKG admissions, you need to be in Chennai now to get the application forms. The grand parents cannot get application forms. One of my friends tried for admissions to DAV school for a couple of years and then gave up.
As for Chennai Public School, it is a new school and lot of teachers from SBOA school have gone there to work. As for SBOA school, I still find the teachers that taught me still working there. I find that a positive.

I have not been able to gather a lot of information about Schram Academy. I have tried several forums but so far been very unsuccessful. I understand that Maduravoyal campus of Schram Academy is the best. The rest of the campuses are not that good.

Went to Schram Academy Anna Nagar Campus today (for my kid's SKG/UKG admission). The form says that they have till Class II but when I called them later they said they have only till Class I. Bit confused, as I was assuming that they have till Class II based on what was written on the form .

Definitely there is no 3rd grade. You might have to send your kid to Maduravoyal or Nolambur campus for that. The fees was around 8,300 per term and Rs. 60,000 for the initial fee ( wanted to ask if it was 16,000 or 60,000 :) ) + 10,000 for other things like books+dress etc (this is without transportation). Never paid a dime for my kid's schooling in US, so these figures are bit extraordinary for me :(.

I am also looking at A School Anna Nagar West for my kid. Let me know if anyone has any comments on the school.

Did you visit the Nolambur or Maduravoyal campus by any chance? I spoke to someone in the school today and he said the Maduravoyal campus admissions are frozen. The fee structure is the same that you mentioned in your post. How does the fee structure compare to other schools in Annanagar (especially SBOA and Velammal). How about infrastructure in the Nolambur campus? Did you hear reviews about the Schram Academy? Are they good or bad?

I only visited the Anna Nagar West Extn Campus on Park Road. Will be taking my kid again tomorrow morning. Didn't visit Nolambur or Maduravoyal as I am looking for UKG for my kid this year. I heard good reviews about Schram Academy (this is basically from the internet) but haven't met any parents till now.

The only schools we have in consideration are A School and Schram Academy . Visited EuroKids but they haven't responded back. Fees was around 16K till April 10th. Didn't visit any other school. A School is much closer to us but I liked Schram better.
