Yeah....dilemma not there anymore. Had almost given up hopes and an old diary exists here started in 2008 that has many many pages of all the trials and tribulations. Certain significant events happened in 2011 that changed the course and following things come to my mind.
1. My company asked me to relocate to mineapolis and Wifey wanted a change as well. She was ready to quit her nice job and start afresh.
We put the home on the market (purchased for 380 k) for asking price of 350 K. We moved in Jun of 11 to minneapolis. In july she found a consulting job. We moved into a 2 bed apt that was not so nice. It was not easy to move.
2. My company was acquired in a couple of months by an indian company. Flood gates for coming back opened. I had a nice opportunity to head a team here. Agreed for the same with some negotiation.
3. House on the market was not moving at all. Hardly a few vistors. Had a open house every weekend. Worked with a agent. One day decided I was going to put the house on rent. Called up the agent and told I was going to pull the house off the market if house was not sold within a month. I had dropped the price to 325 K as my chinese nieghbour vanished one weekend putting the house on sale as well. This was in about october 11. After 2 weeks a buyer came forward with a price of 290 K. I countered by dropping 5 k. Buyer increases to 305 K and this would be his final offer. I countered by dropping another 10 K and buyer agrees. Matter closed within a few days. Took fast decisions.
4. Luckily on the same day, I had my formal indian offer. Lucky I guess. We are absolutely jubilant. We had lost quiet a bit of money on the house but we were really ecstatic that things changed so quickly.
5. In november i sent a mail to NAFL requesting admission for my kid. Gave some details. After exchange of a few more mails, they accepted my kid and asked to pay 2 lakhs within a week of so. So absolutely no stress on this front.
6. Shipped our goods through universal relocations.
7. I had 3 cars to sell. Donated one. Sold another to my colleague and kept one until 2 weeks. Tried to talk to some dealers who were not willing to pay more than 17 k for 2008 honda cr-v that had about 30000 miles. Decided not to sell the car and instead thought ofkeeping it in my sister's place. So we just drove down to charlotte with the documents from minneapolis. Loved the drive. BIL thought maybe we could try CarMax. Drove the car to Carmax and made an offer of 19 k. Sold it. In a matter of a few weeks , we managed to take care of everything.
I had accumulated lot of miles and got back to minneapolis with 3 tickets for the family. We flew back to Bangalore early april.
I have an apartment that I had rented out. The tenants wanted to stay until end of May. so we shuttled between my parents and in-laws for couple of months before we moved in.
Life's on a roll in Bangalore and we absolutely love it with some frustrations that can be easily managed. Wifey has just begun hunting for a job. We love the apartment complex and the environment. Kid loves the school. Its been almost 6 months. I am about to go back to USA for a business trip and walk down memory lane.....and some shopping. Wifey has prepared a big list:))
