Mumbai_2009;2392303 months of permanent India stay and still going on:
1) Do I miss USA - NO
2) Do I remember USA - Not much
3) Do I like staying in Mumbai - Yes and No
4) Do I want to move out of Mumbai - No
5) I don' like Mumbai Traffic
6) Mumbai is too populated and polluted
7) I still prefer Mumbai, dunno why
8) I like my friends and they happen to be in mumbai
9) Can someone invent a filter than can filter out unwanted relatives/neighbors/friends?
10) I need lot of patience to survive in Mumbai or should I say India?
Every time I return to Mumbai to work, I think that my first year of R2I would have gone much, much better had I moved to Mumbai instead of Pune. The answer maybe lies in # 7- and even I cannot justify the statement I just made!

There is a free guidance on RTI act on March 15 @ 4:30 pm in South Mumbai by RTI experts/officials. If anyone interested PM me and will give you the details
2 weeks ago I had lodged an online complaint about a particular autorikshaw charging me more thru a faulty auto meter. Surprise Surprise I got reply from RTO that action is being taken on the complaint. What kinda action is not specified but atleast an email from Government Body....India is bit shining i guess....hurray!!!
2 days ago was caught by traffic police and license was confiscated due to the tinted glass reading of my car of not being above 50.....:-( The car of mine is running on Mumbai roads since 2006 and not a single police cop saw those tinted glasses till 2 days ago. Well i didn't offer to pay the cop so license is with them and i need to collect it in 15 days time after removing the film on my Car windows.
When we purchased the car we had asked the dealer if the tinted film is within RTO requirement and they had said yes then but guess not.
If someone know about this rating and all, could they share some light? There is this huge bible on RTOs website about rules and regulation but didn't find information on the tinted glass rating. May be I need to look again.

I downloaded the Traffic Police manual pdf document from
http://www.trafficpolicemumbai.org/ and its been specified there that VT (visual transmission) of light for windscreen+rear window should not be less than 70% and side windows should not be less than 50%
Finally someone is out there doing their job!. I applaud that cop now!.

This past weekend had a chance to be part of bird watching trail organised by BNHS
http://www.bnhs.org/. Amazing time spent with passionate nature lovers and sighted some amazing birds which I had never noticed like Indian Grey Hornbill, chestnut shouldred Petronia and many more. Took my 5th grade neice along and we had a wonderful/educative session with almost 45 members team. The trails were in the interior of National park entering from Film city road. People of Mumbai who got kids and want to have their kids educated with a hands on experience with local flora and fauna, joining BNHS is the very good and cheap option. They have a great educative trails and camps and volunteers are very well trained.

bird watching...hmmmm... There was a sai baba temple in a beautiful location where lots of birdies and birdas used to flock on thursdays! It was fun to see birds watching other birds! :)

Well said. That is my POV as well. we all should just treat all as people and go from there. Makes things so simple. I relate more with people on the values (like honesty, being charitable, valuing education etc), that I cherish than on anything else.

soomdy;271487I remember going to a tamil wedding. Saw the bride sitting on the groom's lap ( Bare chested in LOONGI):). This was my first tamil wedding experience. I was in my early 20s then and found myself screaming in my mind...... hey stop it right there.....:).
It's not Lungi..its a Dhoti! Lungis have closed ends and are generally colored piece of cloth.

Mumbai_2009;271392Recently I attended a Punjabi-Tamil wedding. I was representing boy's side who happens to be from Punjab and is a very dear friend of my family. My family had been with him thru his turbulent times with the girls family. Girls family was dead against the match but agreed. What brought the change is a story by itself but its history now so won't ponder on it. The boy's entire family flew from punjab and it was our first time seeing them in person. It was a very emotional situation when the boy's father hugged my dad saying he will be eternally grateful to my father for being a father to his son in Mumbai. Pondering upon that situation later I felt why people engage in this North/South, Indian/nonIndian discussion, can't we just do good deeds and forget the boundaries..it will make things so much easier..
Well said...I recently attended a wedding where the groom was a Tamilian from Mumbai and the bride was an Indian-American and her mom's side was Jewish. As usual there was opposition to the marriage at first - but everything worked out well in the end. It was so beautiful to see the groom's mother hugging the bride's grand mother. They both liked each other so much that they kept on getting pictures with each other...:). The grandmother, who had initially opposed the marriage, in the end was saying "I now have an Indian daughter"!! (referring to the groom's mom).
It was so beautiful to see how the self-made differences and boundaries between people dissolved so quickly. Reminded me of my wedding - Marathi/Kannadiga family blending with a Punjabi/Delhiite family almost seamlessly. On second thoughts, though it looked seamless - I am sure it must have taken a large heart and a sensible, mature mind for these elders to overlook their differences for the sake of happiness of their children...

If a groom enters the mandap in a lungi, I doubt the bride will proceed with the ceremony.
His best hope is that she'll let him wear lungi around the house as long as he is not sighted in it by maid servant or by visiting parents of the bride. Or by their R2I'ed neighbors.
