I own two websites currently hosted in the USA. Costs about $400 a year for hosting and auto billed to my CC.

I am on H1 and planning to R2I in July 2007 I was wondering if I can keep my credit/debit card active after R2I for paying my bills?

I know I can take my hosting with me..but 99% of the site users are in USA so its faster if the servers are in USA...and my hosting company doesn't accept paypal.

I heard some US banks offer accounts to International customers..any body any ideas on this?

Any thoghts in general?

get a credit card in India. They work just fine in paying any US ISP.

I am not sure about debit cards, but I do not know why the credit card can not be active. I plan to keep mine after I r2i. I have changed to electronic billing, so the bills will no longer come to my house.

And since I use bill pay, I dont have to mail a check - I can do it all online.

Am I missing something ? I am assuming that you will have a dollar account in the US to pay the US card.

So do we notify the CC company about the change in address in India, since CC usually are valid for year or so and then they send new cards automatically at the address?

I talked to my bank..here is the answer from my bank.

I can keep checking account and a credit card open even after R2i... After my H1 expires..which could mean SSN is not valid any more..I still can keep my accounts open...
there is some paper work involved ..and change of address to international address..online banking is not affected.

In case of earned interest on you checking account...the bank will send me a W8 form..and I need to file in the country of current residence

W8 - international tax filing.....something like that

Is SSN related to H1 ? I always thought that SSN was once in a life time shot.

I personally think its a good idea to cancel all debit/credit cards just before R2I. We get international credit/debit cards in India. So its best to just keep one credit union bank account with a minimum balance $25 which is linked to your ICICI account in India. That way any checks payable to you can come through that channel.

I don't think the validity of SSN has anything to do with one's Visa or legal status. Unless I'm terribly mistaken, one's SSN is valid forever - at least I'm not aware of any situation where-in SSN becomes invalid.

There's nothing illegal in retaining one's Credit Card, Debit Card or even bank accounts as long as the necessary institutions are informed of the change in address and jobs ahead of time. For credit cards though, some institutions might have issues with one's credit line depending on the switch (and might even cancel the card). Filing taxes and card renewals could be a pain though.
