Kid U Visa in expired passprt & Applying for 6 mnths Visa to avoid hassle - Q?

My Kids U Visa is in expired passport and my email to SFO consulate had 2 answers with OCI team saying, You need to have U Visa in new passport and new OCI card issued and Misc team saying, you can travel. The processing time is about 45 days or so.

So I decided to apply for 6 months tourist visa. I had this after printing his application and trying to understand the meaning of this line."Minor applicants must have a copy of both parents signed passports."

Any thoughts or experience on what it means...."Minor applicants must have a copy of both parents signed passports."

I have sent an email to indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing.com.

Thanks

When applying online Miscellaneous Services, it says it is not mandatory. Does anyone have experience on travelling on expired passport with OCI.

I am in similar situation. I got reply from SFO saying "It is always better to have current information on all travel documents." and from misc team (Dr. B.N. Shetty) "As time is limited you can travel carrying the old and new passport and the OCI card".
I am just taking chance and following Dr. B.N. Shetty's advice.
Actually the update of OCI of Minor to have u-visa in current passport was on Jan. 2008 and I travelled June 2008 with minor son carrying both passports ( old passport with u-visa and new). That time I did not get into any problem.

I've been to consulate office. They say to use misc. services online and then send appl by mail., it will take around a month for processing. He said some airlines may allow oci on old passport, I don't know what it have to do with airlines???
So if you send the appl with passport, you basically stuck for a month or maybe more, who knows.
This whole OCI thing is a mess.

It is confusing based on the information on the Consulate web sites. Unless you have a very short amount of time before travel, my suggestion is to send new passport & get fresh OCI sticker and booklet. You never know what the folks at the port of entry in India will do. They may decide to enforce the rule at any time.

If a pax is refused entry due to incorrect or insifficient travel documents, the airline gets fined. In UK, it used to be £2000 in 90s. They are required to fly the refused pax out within 24 hrs in UK.

I just check with the Chennai FRRO office. You can travel with both the passports (old expired passport with the u stamp and the new passport). No need to get the passport stamped. However if you want to get the passport stamped, the process is same as applying for a new oci card. You will get a new oci card along with the stamp in the passport and it will take 3 months in India.

Thanks for the info. Just one clarification: Did you check for Minor child's (<18yrs) OCI ?

I just called them. They told me that I have to get a new OCI card for my son. But I can travel with the old passport (with the UVisa) and new passport and the OCI card. Once I get back home, I can apply for the new OCI card.
