Got New US Passport. Is it necessary to transfer OCI sticker ?

I have renewed my sons Us passport recently. He is a USC and has OCI. In addition to the OCI card, he had OCI stamp in his old passport. Do we need to get the stamp transferred to the new passport? Or can we carry the old passport along with the new one and OCI card during our travel?

If the child is below 20 years of age, you do need to send the new passport to get a fresh OCI sticker and booklet (because the child's passport number has changed and it's on them). After 20 years of age, you are good until the age of 50, at which time you must get a new sticker with the current passport. Some people have said they've been able to travel to India with the old OCI sticker and the new passport, but that's not what the rule says. It's better to get a new sticker to be on the safe side. Yes. On payment of requisite fee, a new OCI ‘U’ visa sticker will be
issued. However, the applicant can continue to carry the old passport wherein the OCI ‘U’ visa sticker was pasted along with new passport for
visiting India without seeking a new visa, as the visa is lifelong.

16. Whether OCI documents have to be re-issued each time a new
passport is taken?
OCI registration certificate and visa have got to be re-issued each time
a new passport is issued up to the completion of 20 years of age and
once after completion of 50 years of age.
Re-issuance of OCI registration certificate and visa is not mandatory,
each time a new passport is issued between 21-50 years of age.
However, if the applicant wishes to obtain new set of OCI documents,
he/she can apply for the same.

I called the FRRO office OCI cell in Chennai. They told me that OCI visa is for lifetime and I dont have to get it stamped in the new passport. As Long as I can carry the old passport with the stamp and the OCI card, I can travel.
Can someone clarify this

were u able to travel with ur son to india with the oci in the old expired passport. I have the same issue and wondering what to do. I have to travel in few days an new US passport for my son will come this week. Don't have time to apply for OCI on the website etc.
Does anyone know if the indian consulate in NY can do anything ?

How old is the traveller? The rules are different for minors and adults.

Guys - the rules are crystal clear. See the quotation from luvvsp above.
If OCI holder is less than 20 years old, then you need to get a new OCI sticker and registration booklet EVERY TIME you get a new passport. This should be done using the OCI Miscellaneous Services procedure - apply online, print out the forms and submit to consulate/FRRO with $25 fee.
The FRRO offices in India are not very clear on the rules and give wrong advice. Please read the FAQ, Rules on the Official OCI website and everything is clear.
