I recently renewed my kid's OCI due to new passport at New york consulate. Here are the details of my experience. It will be helpful to everyone.

1. Submitted application online (entered reason as "Change of passport particulars because of issuance of new passport" and
also "Change of address")

2. Sent following documents in 1 packet to the consulate (in first week of April)
- printed application form (this was printed after submitting online application), pasted photo on the form
- copy of U visa of old passport
- copy of old OCI registration certificate (booklet)
- copy of new passport (first page and last 2 page)
- $25 money order
(I did not notarize photocopy. It was only self-attested)

3. then I was in the waiting mode....
4. application got acknowledged sometime in second week of May
5. it got approved in second week of june
6. OCI documents received at consulate in last week of June

7. I then sent following to Consulate in 1 packet in first week of July
- letter, written by me
- original old passport
- original new passport
- original old OCI booklet
- $20 money order
- print out of online status

8. I received original documents back within 1 week
- I received original old passport, original new passport and new OCI booklet back. They kept old OCI booklet with them.
They pasted new U visa in new passport. They did not cancel the visa in old passport

I hope this will be useful to everyone

hi,
Is it mandatory to get the OCI visa stamp on the new passport? Is it acceptable if we carry both the old and new passports and just show the old passport for the OCI details?

Here is the information from new york consulate website...

1. Up to the completion of 20 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued each time
a new passport is issued;
2. After the completion of 50 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued once after
issuance of a new passport;
3. Between 21-50 years of age, there is no need to seek re-issuance of OCI documents
each time a new passport is issued. However, if the applicant desires, he may avail the
service for re-issuance of OCI documents.

During OCI Reissuance, parents passport was not required at that time. So I did not send parent's passport. Again, please note that this is OCI reissuance. Let me know if you have any more question.
