Dear group members,
I have a situation here that child is born in Canada for Indian Citizen parents. Child and parents are currently in Canada and wants to return to India. We are planning to apply for Indian passport for the child and through the Indian consulate in Vancouver we have got the information on the process to apply for Indian passport.
The issue we have is once we reach India and wants to travel again to Canada, how can the child having Indian Passport can obtain the Canadian Visa ? As per Canadian authorities all the Canadian Citizen should travel with Canadian Passport. Since India does not allow dual citizenship, the child cannot apply for Canadian Passport.
Any suggestion on addressing this issue . Any information will be of valuable.
Cheers,
Sach

This makes your child an Indian citizen. You should apply for a Canadian visa for your child (as your dependent).

Wouldn't it be best to apply for an Indian Passport in Canada, get the visa stamp and then travel to India?
I don't know if they issue Indian passports to newborns abroad, I am just assuming that's what a sane and rational nation-state would do.

Thanks, But I have received information that the Canadian authorities have denied Visa for such case and have requested to apply for Canadian passport stating that the child is a citizen of Canada

In which case, apply for a Canadian passport and an OCI card for your child.

With the current information OCI option is the feasible option. But we still want to get Indian Citizen ship for the child and at the same time the child not have issue in travelling to Canada

I am unfamiliar with the immigration system of Canada. However, I somehow doubt it has the same system of mandatory birthright citizenship the United States has. You don't have an option but to be a U.S. Citizen if you are born in that country. I think at 18 you may be able to renounce but for the first 18 years of your life you shall be travelling on an American Passport.
I don't think you should come to India to get a passport. You should first register the child's birth with the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, have him established as an Indian Citizen, get a Passport issued there itself, get him signed on as a dependant on your Canadian work permit and only then travel to India.
I don't think Canada shall impose citizenship upon your child if it is not wanted, only America does that.

Thanks. As you said the minor cannot renounce their citizenship in Canada. The issue we have is once obtaining the Indian passport by registering the child's birth , travelling to India may not be an issue. But if the child wants to travel back to Canada again, the problem arise, since the child Cannot apply for Visa . Canada says, Canadian Citizen should travel with passport and not with Visa.
Currently another option we are thinking of is apply for OCI and travel to India. Once the child holds OCI card for five years and spend one year in India then the child can apply for passport and eventual be a Indian Citizen. Am assuming this step is valid.
