Trying to apply OCI + Renunciation.

The CKGS website is complete disaster. They made me pay the fee first and there is no checklist on what docs to send for Renunciation.

Not sure why they are making it so complex (For such a high price)

I filled the OCI application on GOI website.

I guess we can send Renunciation+OCI in a single Fedex envelope.

If anyone applied recently please help me.

Thanks in Advance.

Go back to their site and login . You will have all documents ready to be downloaded (minus the GOI docs). If you bought their shipping, you need to separate out the OCI and Rectification documents and send in different packages. If you are using your own shipping then you would have provided 2 different airway bill numbers (? not sure if they call this the same) so you need to use those to send 2 different packages.

Yes, the ckgs site is a mess. I am trying to fill in application for OCI, based on my answers on Indian passport, it says I need to apply for renunciation first. When I go to Renunciation page, there is a option of applying for Renunciation + OCI, when I continue with that, it's again throwing same message that I have to apply for Renunciation first :( Any inputs guys?

Not sure which state you are applying from, but I started the process few weeks back in New York. For New York region you have to do renunciation first and then apply for OCI. Good thing is that I got the renunciation back within a week, bad thing is it costs a lot for both . I am starting the OCI process now. I would suggest you call the CKGS customer service if you have any doubts. Usually they are helpful and responsive.

Even process for New OCI for US born Minor is complicated with hell lot of soft copies and hard copies of documents. Govt. Of India website and staff who issue OCI and also ckgs staff are not up to date. i don?t see any benefit having indian embassy/consulate in USA in multiple states. If Indian consulate/Embassy wants then they can simplify OCI process. Why do they need to check all docs again in India after Embassy staff in USA checked and sent it to India. we have to upload soft copies of docs with very limited size in govt. website. Then need to mail same documents with few additional docs to their office.

One of my friend?s minor kid application was rejected instead of requesting missing document. He did not upload kid?s birth certificate in online govt. website but he sent hard copy along mailing docs. When they have hard copy why do they need to reject? If that document is mandatory to be uploaded then their website page should not allow to finish/submit online application. Now he needs to start over same process again as new application. They are not taking complaints seriously. Govt. Of India or CKGS customer care are not clear on documents when we call them. Each customer care representative tells different thing to same question. OCI application cost is around $300.

Applied at NYC CKGS, yes spoke with customer service. I believe only NYC and SFO are asking to apply for renunication first where as other office accepting single application for Renun+OCI.

Applied last week and my travel is coming up on May 2nd week, keeping fingers crossed. If there is no movement, will apply for eVisa in May 1st week. It's ironic that we need visa to go to India :emcrook::))
