OCI with kids and those > 50 years of age take note

As of 1/1/2008, OCI cardholders are now required to get a new OCI card and visa issued every time a new passport is issued for kids < 20 years of age. If you are > 50 yrs, you need to get your OCI card reissued once after attaining the age of 50. This is presumably to ensure that the OCI card contains an accurate representation of your facial characteristics.
Here's an excerpt from the guidelines document:
"3. OCI registration certificate and visa have got to be re-issued by availing this
service, each time a new passport is issued up to the completion of 20 years
of age and once after completing 50 years of age.
4. Re-issuance of OCI registration certificate and visa is not mandatory, each
time a new passport is issued between 21-50 years of age. However, if the
applicant wishes to avail this service, he/she can apply for the same."
