This question is for all the OCI's settled in India - How do you find people's attitude's towards you? Means - do they ask you why you took foreign nationality? Or let's say you are a UK citizen and some people don't like some of the UK policies (immigration, outsourcing etc.), would they discuss more with you about these policies just because you are a UK Citizen.

OR people in India just don't care...as long as you are of indian origin.

Just curious. why do you care?. Even if you care, how would people know that you are an OCI and not an Indian citizes, unless you tell them.

Am I missing anything?

This is a favorite questions for many people, once they know you have lived in the USA longer they will sure ask you if you have GC, USC etc, why you had it, if not why you did not get it etc etc. They want to categorize you accordingly

I have R2I'd with OCI more than 2 years back. NO ONE in INDIA cares whether you are OCI, USC or whatever. Many in my apartment complex are OCI's, some in my work place are OCI's. This topic never comes up, as no one brings it up, neither do we mention the fact that we were abroad at every opportunity.

Thanks for your responses.. even though one doesn't tell people about his/her citizenship status but still your neighbors and friends know it.

Reason I asked this question was that whenever I am in India, people do ask me questions on my citizenship status etc. Sometimes, they will talk to me regarding some US policies which they may not like...

wondering how people with OCIs handle it...

No matter what a lot of them dislike US because it still remains the strongest power on the planet. It's human nature to envy a very successful person or country in this case.

Just don't take any negative comments about US seriously and respond and you'll be alright.

We don't always need to be defensive - at least some people ask questions out of curiosity and because you might have more information rather than to pass judgement on you. Also, its not like all USC agree with all US policies, so you can just discuss what you like or dislike without feeling the need to defend everything.
