Hi,

We R2id from USA to Mumbai couple of months back with kids 7 & 3 years old (daughters).

Kids don't like cartoon channels like Cartoon network, Disney etc since they are mostly in local language like Hindi or even English programs have most cartoons which are local.

They want to watch programs like Dora, spongebob, fresh beat bands, max and ruby etc from channels like Nick, Nickelodeon.

I was trying to find some online streaming sites but they seem to be of pathetic quality.

Does anyone know anyway to watch such american programs? I am pretty sure parents of other kids who R2I may be facing similar issues.

Is there anyway to subscribe to these channels via any service provider or at least get the DVDs of some of these programs available?

Thanks in advance.

The programs are available on the following website and my kids in US always watches these.
http://www.nickjr.com/kids-videos/

But, it won't work in India unless you figure out a way to get US ip address in India.

Try bigflix as they seem to have some decent DVD collection for kids

OP,

What kind of service provider do you have for the TV - is it cable or DTH?

Some of the DTH providers like TataSky and Reliance seemed to have a good channel lineup.

It would be good if you introduce them to indian cartoon programs (like Little Krishna, Chota Bheem and so on), my kids were also big fan of US Cartoon channels when we moved last year (they were 8 and 6 yrs old), but now they both like indian Cartoon programs, returning to India after 16+ years I see a tremendous improvement in TV-Programs in kids-area.

Just one thing to note, TV is an addiction to kids, we need to control, in US I can understand because of weather and neighborhood the only option for kids to entertain was TV, here in India they will have lot of friends to play with and this is what should be encouraged as kids will learn a lot playing with other kids than sitting and watching TV all the time.

Apart from language issue, the kids serials like chota bheem, krishna all are pure violent-fest with zero learning if not negative. If the kids dont get addicted or influenced by the ghastly cartoons, the local ads would get them.
There are no channels like nickJr or PBS with minimal or suitable ads here, let alone good programs like dora, diego, blues clues.

I bought AppleTV (older version with hard disk) and bought Dora, Diego through that. You need to have iTunes account with US address. You can also rent all the latest released movies. :)

Surprising that you cannot see Dora here. I am in Chennai, we have TataSky and all my 3 kids are able to watch MickeyMouse, Dora, Diego, Thomas and friends, Little Einsteins, Special Agent OSO etc etc in ENGLISH.

Of course I let them watch it maybe be 1/2 hr or 1 hr per day. They love Little Krishna, Chota Bheem, Pogo channel, Art attack, MAD.
Cbeebies is for small kids but programs like Mister maker and I love to cook for kids , Boogie Babies are some programs that they loved to watch.

Thats more than enough for kids!!!

I have to agree that american cartoons have a lot of thought process and teach more than what indian cartoons might teach. I used to not like my child watching some of these violent cartoons. SHINCHAN is a big one- i dont know why our television ministry has allowed it when it has a history of being banned and triggering disorders in young children in its country of origin.

However, I also noticed that my child was getting much more street smart when he watched chota bheem etc etc and has a much softer approach when watching US cartoons.

Not sure if the cost is worth it.
Even kids raised in West have trust in fellow human beings, they would not worry about leaving their cycles unlocked etc whereas here we all are suspicious.
