I just got a call from CC company asking about certain charges originating out of UK.
I have disowned those charges and asked them to close the card.
The purpose of that card was to manage any of US expenses post R2I (phone ,utility bills etc).
I just wanted to know if there is something i should be careful of OR somebody who has been in this boat.
Please remember the address on file is an US address and i have r2ied.
Thanks in Advance

In india do not use the public computers in places like cybercafe to enter sensitive info like credit card info. Way back in 2002, in bangalore I found that a cybercafe had a software to capture keystrokes in their computer. I just screwed up that software installation before using that computer. I have heard of cases where even email accounts are hijacked. I stay away from cybercafe, if i can.

bwk, have you used the CC in India? I had a similar incident where someone started using my card for making international calls. Had to get new cards.

I actually only surf from home and the transactions(if any) are ONLY done from home

I did use the CC once to do online airline booking in India as my indian credit cards have very low spending limits and my gut tells that is the place where it got compromised. Luckily i had set up an alert for any transaction above $50..
but the hacker did a series of very small transactions to get below the alert.
I have no idea how he figured that and how it did not show up in my transaction list as i check that frequently. It seems that international charges add up as pending charges and then get posted. So now i will keep a track of pending charges for sudden spurts too.:emdgust:
I assume there will somethings mailed to my US address and i have to identify the legitimate ones and pay only for those ? Any timing constraints as i have to figure the logistics of this.

It doesn't take online irresponsible behavior, or some computer hacker to get your credt card info stolen. It can be actually be much simpler than that - anytime you hand your credit card to the cashier at the register in a shop, or to a waiter in a restaurant - your account is at risk.
All that anyone with your card in his hand needs is 5 seconds away from your sight to copy the 16 digit no., name, security code - or a good memory.
