The kids were small when we r2I'ed and the trips we did so far after R2i are:

1. Dune resort Pondy
2. Kurumba resort, Ooty
3. Zest breaks , Pondy
4. Jungle resorts , Bangalore (Cauvery camp)

Rest has been to Coimbatore and Bangalore to visit family members.
Now that the kids are bigger, we would like to visit Dubai for like 6 days in Sep. Need pointers on where to stay, esp kid friendly places to stay (too many hotels listed) , main places to see etc. Any tips will be useful. thanks in advance.

Hi poofygoogle,

Here are the places we visited in Dubai:

Burj Al Arab (booked dinner there for an occasion), Gold Souk, Spice Souk(saffron), Beach (one of the towns a little far from Dubai), Burj Dubai (to see the new construction coming up), Mall of the emirates (and one more mall) and the shopping festival (Jan).

We did the desert/dunes ride in a van (bumpy if you have elderly or infants along) and this evening package came with dinner and a belly dance. The ride and the evening was a unique experience; if we do it again, will go a little early.

Also, did a dinner cruise (ok..).

Visited the fish market. Meena Bazaar(such as blouse material), embroidered salwar materials (not sure where this was), also bought dates and dry fruits. Visited Carrefour (like Safeway here in the US)

If interested in Chinese goods, there is a separate mall (Dragon mart) on the outskirts.

Accomodations, at that time, we had relatives staying there, hence no idea.

Have a good time!

Hotel? Lot of good hotels/apartments. But what is your budget? You should check Atlantis, they have some summer offer till end September. Also this a low season (Ramadan), and hotel rates would be less. You could get a 2BR hotel apartment for may be INR 2500. But make sure you go for "Family Hotel" !!! If you are there before Ramadan, ensure you try Iftar (after fasting) or Suhur (after 8 PM) buffets in hotel tents such as Jumeirah Beach Park.

Itinerary? Shopping (Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall, Deira City Centre), Jumeirah Beach Park, Burj Al Arab, Wild Wadi (water theme park), Aquaventure (Atlantis water theme park), Desert Safari (need to book in your hotel), Ski Dubai (Indoor Ski inside Mall of Emirates), Dubai Dolphinarium (Dolphin show), Burj Khalifa (need advance booking to go on the top), Gold Souk.............

Thanks Sri and tejas. This really helps. i am looking into Atlantis but its still a little away from the main areas and I think the food part is expensive when staying there.
Is the following itineary good?

Day 1 - Dubai Mall - includes Sega, ski rink etc etc
Day 2 - Souks - just gold and electronics and maybe chinese - anything else??
Day 3 - Visit to Burj or a Big Bus tour , fountain and remaining time in malls
Day 4 - Wild Wadi park or Atlantis Aquaventure / Lost chambers?
Day 5 - Emirates Mall and Cruise

Am I missing anything else??

Day 1 - Dubai Mall, Ice Rink, Sega, Burj Khalifa, Fountain (All are in same place). If you want to go on the top of burj khalifa, you need to book it online asap
Day 2 - Gold Souk (There is no electronic souq, you could get the best deals at Carrefour, Sharaf DG, Jumbo etc, which is in mall of emirates and Dubai Mall)
Day 3 - Burj Al Arab, Wild Wadi (not visited Aquaventure, heard wild wadi is the best). Both are nearby
Day 4 - Mall of Emirates (Ski Dubai is in the mall)
Day 5 - May be big bus tour

If you are looking to have indian food more often then staying is bur dubai recommended. Let me know if you are looking at any specific hotels.

tejas - thanks much. I am looking at Grant Hyatt or Oasis beach tower apartments. Hubby likes the Jebel Ali resort. I am hoping to stay at least a night in one of Jumeriah hotels that gives free access to Wild wadi park but its working out to be expensive. Should I get the discount booklets to get Wild wadi park access discount or something.

Just returned from a month in South India.
Spent 3 weeks in Goa and about 4 days in Bangalore and Chennai each.
Got to meet Oasis138 and Luvindia as a bonus!

In addition, we have travelled to Sikkim, Darjeeling, Bhutan, UK, US, China, Chandigarh (a few times), Nainital (a few times- easy drive from Delhi), Rajasthan, Bombay, Goa (a few times), Punjab, Singapore, Malaysia and a few other places during the past year.
