Non-commercial drivers have the option to renew online, providing there are no corrections or changes.

Why bother? If nothing else, some states in the US can hold you liable (in theory) for state taxes on your income if you keep and especially renew a license.

NY license. Tried to renew online. It said eye test required from authorized doctors. Has anyone gone through this?

I checked with the DMV & they pretty much said that you need to provide a physical address in US, no P O Box allowed. So I guess, if you relocate to India, you pretty much lose US license after it expires. I don't think you can provide an Indian address.

Which address do you guys give for US license when in India? The Jury duty notice would be sent to the driving license address on the file. Has anyone received the jury duty notice while in India? How did you take care of it from India?

I believe the above is correct statement. License in US serves 2 purpose. First the obvious one, allowing you to drive. Next is it is a identification that you reside in this place in this state. In fact when I moved 12 yrs ago, I was told by the license guy, in theory actually it isnt even valid after we move. Supposed to inform them that we have moved etc. But I dont think this is strict. Dont get confused by the fact you can do online etc. That is procedural.

To answer this question, easeness of driving when visiting. (Not that I am claiming you can do it, just answering why people want to do it). When I visited US after move, it was late & license expired. I got a Intl license which means I wasted 3/4 hrs one day. Some people who still had the license not expired, just used it & drove rental cars with it. Some convenience. Since these are company paid rentals, we could afford to be sloppy about insurance etc.
I am just answering your question of what the benefit is if possible. I am also saying in seperate message it isnt possible. It is just a lose end of scrutiny, that we can manage to keep the license for a while atleast till expiry.
