Choosing a shipper nightmare; anyone want to share container from DC Metro Area?

Hi,

I'm having about 40 boxes a few pieces of furniture shipped from Washington DC to Chennai India. Over the past few days I've received several quotes from shippers.

QUESTION # 1: I am REALLY confused with the 'Services Excluded' details in their quote as it is really a gray area. Is there a standard set of services that SHOULD be included by a shipper? (For example, palletization fee, demmurage & detention, per diem etc).

QUESTION # 2: What services CAN be excluded in a quote?

QUESTION # 3: How do I distinguish a good quote from a deceptive one?

QUESTION # 4: Can anyone suggest each and every exact detail the shipper must provide in the agreement before the move? This will help me and others avoid any SURPRISE CHARGES when the shipment is received!!

QUESTION # 5: Insurance seems to be another gray area. What type of insurance should I go for if I pack on my own?

QUESTION # 6: Is anyone shipping a less than a container load from the DC Metro Area to Port Chennai, and wants to share the container space with me? I would not need more than 300 cubic feet. Please email me if so.

While I am excited about the move, I really hope I have a pleasant shipping experience!!!

Thank you!
GoVidesh
