Sofa Packing and Shipping

Has anybody self packed a sofa for shipping to India? Is the shrink wrap or the polyethylene covers that Uhaul/Uline/Packingmaterial.com sell along with some quilt or sheets on the corners enough?

Also, although my couch is not new, its been barely used and looks brand new. I also recently had a protective coating put on it, which makes it look even newer. Will that create problems at customs?

Any help appreciated. Moving soon.

just a shrink wrap or polyethylene covers may not be enough in my opinion. you should also look at the blankets that U-haul sells for approx $7 (the cheaper ones) and the more expensive ones are around $20. the blankets will offer more protection than just shrink wrap. you can also source thick paper pads or paper blankets and then some stiff cardboard to cover the sofa to give it the max protection.

when packing, think of the worst and then protect your belongings accordingly.

if it looks new, try and keep old purchase receipts to prove actual date and it may help you in customs

hope this helps
