should we need PAN for property registration in India?

if we buy property using bank check, should we need to submit PAN copy for property registration in India. Any threshold limit of property cost to submit PAN in sub registrar office while doing registration. Is it mandatory or optional? what are the rules for NRI and Regular Residents in India.

A resident in India definitely needs a PAN for registration of the property.

i think NRI does not need PAN while buying property but NRI need PAN when selling & repatriating that money.
i am not sure, Experts from this forum can give correct answer.
