I would be returning to Pune in a couple of months and as I understand I would be needing a ration card for getting atleast some(if not all) of the utilities set up.

Could anyone of you who has gone through that process, kindly post your experiences in terms of

whats needed
where to apply
anyway to expedite the process et.al

Which Utilities you are talking about..i have been here for past four months now..nobody asked me for my ration card..its most of the time pan card,driving licence,passport will do.

I was told that to get a gas connection ration card is mandatory ? Please tell me that is not case.

Aslo, is it possible to not have a ration card at all and get all the utilities(internet, phone, electricity etc) connected?

Most of the time they will ask for proof of your address, if you are renting rental agreement and xerox of your pan card.I was not asked ration card by anybody so far..about gas connection i dont have any idea as the flat i am renting has pipe gas line..all i had to do was to call the agency and they started the meter..One of my friends relative work in Nat-raj gas agency, i will ask her and come back about this for sure.

In hindsight my original post should have mentioned about the possibility of renting in an older housing complex without a direct gas pipeline

Based on my experiece in Aundh Pune Dec 2008
You need Ration card for getting govt subsidiezed gas agency connction (HP). To obtain a ration card easiest and which I know of - cancel your ration card from the city of your origin, may be in your parent's card. take certificate and apply for local office with that surrender certificate. Make sure you make copies of those. You local elected corporation member should be able to help you if needed.

Hey you will have to apply for ration card to get gas connection,its compulsory.

you can Contact near talathi office and get relation card related form from there. Also ask them the address of the civil supplier office.The civil supplier office will provide you list of documents required for ration card. Mostly you will need address Proof, Contract with Landlord.
