Can someone please recommend good used car dealers in Pune that sell cars with automatic transmission? It seems that not all dealers keep used cars. It would be nice to have the cars certified too. Is there a concept like 'certified cars' which are certified by the company dealerships?

Also suggestions on a good A/T car are welcome too.

Thanks

Thanks but maybe I wasn't clear. I'm looking for dealers in Pune and not in the US. Hence, opened the thread in Regional Pune forum.

Buying used A/T car is difficult. Choices are very limited and most of them are for sale by individual owners and so do not come with a good warranty or after sales service.

I had checked with Mahindra (in Bavdhan) but all they had was VW Passat in A/T category....for mere 15 lakhs!!!
Receptionists at many other used car dealerships don't even know what is A/T and assume it means power windows and remote locking.

On the other hand, as buyers for A/T cars are very limited, you may get a great deal. Many of these A/T cars should be well maintened and gently handles. If the owner is R2A after a brief stint in India, you will be very lucky.

I bought (rather my wife bought) new I10 Auto and are quite happy.

added later: Just serached in www.quikr.com and I see quite a few automatic cars there.

Yeah, I looked at the I10 and definitely looks like a nice car. We don't want to start with a new car because we are still learning driving in Pune. I'm sure that we will be scratching our car. The car garage in our housing complex is not very car friendly - it takes precision and guess work to maneuver the car outside the parking lot. Of course, the big thing is traffic in Pune. It moves at a snail speed. Requires lot of handling of gears which actually is not good for a manual transmission because you tend to exert force on the gears as well as clutch which may require more maintenance. I read this in one of the magazines that in such cases A/T cars are better though expect low mileage.

I have never been a strong promoter of buying a new car because it depreciates right away, that is, after you drive the car home. E.g. a new i10 A/T may cost somewhere around 5.3L but the other day I saw an ad for used 2011 i10 A/T with just 20,000 miles for 3.5L. So even if I get is fully serviced myself through a Hyundai dealer, it will cost me less than 4L. I understand the warranty factor when buying a used car but for low priced cars, the warranty is limited anyways. My idea is to buy a used car, use it for few years, get accustomed to Indian driving and then think about investing in a new car.

Used market is picking up in India slowly. In few years, there will be a trend where people will prefer buying a used car just like the US.

Anyways, that is my opinion and I do agree that it is tough to find a used A/T car.

I was looking for a used Automatic car in Bangalore for the last one month and gave up in the end and bought a new i10 last week. It cost 6.12 lakhs on the road. The few used automatic cars I came across were being demanded too high a prices or were of doubtful transmission condition, due to bad driving with automatic transmission. As someone had mentioned earlier, many people still don't know what an automatic car is. There is very little choice of new cars with automatic also. Good luck with your search!

Thanks. Do you like the i10 A/T? How is your experience with it? Can you share? Is it a good car for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids)?

Thanks in advance

With the experience so far with my i10, I am quite satisfied with the driving and ease of handling in the city roads. It is sufficiently roomy for 4 adults or 5 passengers including children. The boot is small though which can fit only one big trolley bag and a couple of smaller bags.
One point of concern is that it seems to be giving only around 8 KM per litre. I haven't yet done a proper measurement from full tank though. Hope this helps!
