Hi,

I am looking for any charitable institutions or NGOs in the Pune area - we r2i-ed 6 months back, and are slowly settling down now, and I wanted to get involved with some social work on a part-time basis, but am a little stuck on how to get started.

I looked up things like CRY, Habitat for Humanity, etc, but didnt know how to get involved (who do you contact, how do you sign up, etc).

Is anyone here doing something like this or knows of this ? Any tips would help.

Thanks.

I have been in touch with a Pune based physician who treats HIV/AIDS. He needs help with certain diagnosis equipment as well as providing free treatment to his poor patients. If this is something that excites you, please send me a PM.

There are many local institutions that help poor students with assistance for their daily needs as well as books, etc. If you find that interesting, please let me know and I will post some info.

Thanks CD - I am looking for something where I can offer my time (lots of folks offer money, but few offer time). I do have a soft corner for children and education - so if you know of anything in this area, please do pass it on to me.

I am also interested in getting involved with folks who are helping with rural development - the disparity between rural and urban development is a tragedy.

Only catch is that I want to start doing this on a part-time basis. I am still a year or two away from complete financial independence, so have to have a day job as well.

You can try ASHA which focuses on education of girl children. Looks like they do need volunteers.

BTW this charity was rated no. 1 by charity navigator and it is really impressive.
