Thanks PG.
But since Olive oil and Canola are not being produced in India, all of them should be only imported, right? or are we producing them in India now.

I don't recall local brand names or the local companies are probably are in a tie up. Please check the Nilgris @Adyar since I have seen there for sure.

Oh s, check out Nuts and Spices. Also naturally Auroville should have them (Adyar) but again not sure of the cost aspect. I use Olive oil just for the pasta part.

Most grocery store chain carry a decent variety of O.oil.
Just make sure that the words "first cold pressed" is there in the title/description as this tastes far better for salads/dipping and making pasta sauces. I don't recommend O oil for daily indian cooking as we need the oil to soar to high temp (vaghaar/talipu). Only a few oils can take high heat before becoming carcinogenic, I like peanut oil perosnally.

When in the US, we used to use olive oil extensively. That was mostly because of our trust in Costco, which would take care of these issues.
Here the major issue is adulteration even with so called good brands. There is a New Yorker article on this:
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/08/13/070813fa_fact_muellerA quote: "The investigators also discovered where Ribatti’s adulterated oil had gone: to some of the largest producers of Italian olive oil, among them Nestl?Unilever, Bertolli, and Oleifici Fasanesi, who sold it to consumers as olive oil"
The issue with olive oil is that it is very difficult to find adulterated versions from originals. Even big brand names don't have the bandwidth to do that.
