Unless you were brought up in Chennai, belong to a rich/well-connected chennai family, or plan to work in the Tamil entertainment industry, I would recommend Bangalore over Chennai if you have a choice. Chennai is not suited for r2i'ing. Too hot and unpleasant. I know first-hand. We r2i'ed to Chennai, stayed there for a year, then moved to Bangalore. Think of it this way. after walking freely in US, Chennai is like walking with shin-level water at all times. Bangalore is better - it is like walking with ankle level water.

srkpriv;436392I have not done anything on the school front yet. I have two kids 10 and 4 studying 5th grade and preschool respectively. My question is if I move around September 2012 time frame would I be able to get admission in some good schools in Chennai (or Bangalore). I would have join my son in 6th grade and my daughter in UKG I suppose. Since the job question is still outstanding I have not proceeded further on the school front. I am planning on applying USC early 2012 find a job and then R2I to India in Sep 2012. Can I go directly there and try my luck at some of the schools there or what should I do? Please advice.
I do have some schools in my mind like Vels Billabong, Gateway, PSBB, DAV, Ashram and so on. I don't know the full details yet. If I live in Chennai and if I have to put my Son to one of these schools I would assume it is better if I live some where in Velachery, OMR etc areas.
The chennai schools start giving out admissions forms from September 2012 onwards for 2013 admissions. For instance Harishree Vidyalaya start giving it out in Vijay dashmi, Chettinad vidyashram from Sept 15. In the schools in OMR, admissions can be secured all year round as these are newer schools and would be having plenty of vacancies. If you own/rent an apartment in L&T eden park-Siruseri, then you can 100% secure admission into PSBB siruseri -- Since this is an agreement between the L&T builders and the school management[Note- This school is not a franchisee like the PSBB millenium schools, but comes under the direct management of PSBB]. DAV Velechery, Sunshine montessori in Velachery are bit tough to get in. But Ashram is easier. They have a matriculation and ICSE school. Start calling up the schools from September to know when they are issuing their forms. It will be relatively easier to get in Vels, Gateway, Headstart, APL global, Ashram, Sishya Mehta.

Not easy for Sishya and BVM Perungudi. Both of them claimed to be full till 5th grade for this academic year 2012-2013. Got to talk to the Sishya Principal, Ms. Vijayalakshmi. She was atleast approachable. ICSE syllabus, 2nd and 3rd language options are Tamil, Hindi & Sanskrit. No French option. 3rd language starts from 5th grade. They will be giving out applications in NOV. Entrance exam on English, Math & 2nd language will be in April. When i said that we will be coming in May 2013, the principal advised us to come little earlier, say end of April. Will post couple of pictures of Sishya campus soon.

There are a lot of IB schools and others which boast of an excellent system. Just as a word of caution, there are no teachers to implement any planned system. Get your kids ready to the teachers in India. Your kids might get a slightly better teacher than yours ( I am assuming you would have done your schooling here ) that too if they are lucky. That is the trouble we are facing right now. My kid's teacher ( in an international IB school ) would throw books out of the class room and yell ( with a lot of errors !!! )
so did not quite get what is it that I am paying for. The kids have now started getting used to it!
Has anyone else had any luck with schools ?
