Do any of you who have r2ied in the past years settled down in Annanagar/Mogappair or adjacent areas? If so, how are u all managing the traffic to go from Annanagar to say Guindy or OMR? Is it feasible to stay in Anna Nagar and work in Guindy or OMR?

peace_lover,

I moved to Mugappair in June 2006.
I am sorry, I couldn't comment on the commute, because I have started my own company currently operating from my home.

If you need any other info, pls let me know.
My company is in a start-up stage and taking most of my time, so my replies may be a bit delayed.

Thanks.

astrix - what other good schools are there in Mogappair except DAV??
How is the area in genaral? I see a lot of flats coming up there.
Do you rent out or have you got yourself a home there?

I too have the same question as to how the commute will be to OMR side?

guys
forget about staying in mogappair and commute to work everyday to OMR.
It will take at least 2+ hours(one way) in peak hours.

There is a national highway connecting ponamalli High road near mudaravoyal (area behind mogappair/nolambur) to the GST road (tambaram) but still it will take at least 1 1/2 hours.

We have been a long time resident of Anna Nagar, for over 30 years. My father?s house is still there. From vast open lands at that time to the current situation of Anna Nagar expanding to over 8 KM on the western side as Anna Nagar west, Western Extension, Mogappair East, Mogappair West and Nolambur has been quite incredible. With such expansion and commercialization, the traffic has increased enormously. Adding to the owes is the heavy lorry traffic using the inner ring road passing through.

It takes over half an hour to reach Anna Nagar from Nolambur during peak hours . And to reach OMR from Anna Nagar it will take at least one and half hours in normal traffic, when there is no incidence on the way.

There are many good schools are in this area such as SBOA (Western Extn), DAV Boys & Girls and Velammal (Mogappair) and some others in Anna Nagar. However it will be most unwise to stay at Anna Nagar or its western suburbs if you are working anywhere in Guindy or beyond.

When I had been to Chennai in July this year, I was so disgusted with the traffic congestion in this area, that I decided whenever I R2I, I will not go back to Chennai in spite of the fact that my parents and most of my relatives live there.

poofygoogle,

Mash_Babu and gulfIndian answered most of your questions.

On schools, in addition to ones mentioned by Mash_Babu, there are some good schools within reach of Mugappair - Chinnmaya Mission Anna Nagar, Rajaji Bhavan School in Kilpauk run by Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan. School bus from these schools pickup kids from Mugappair.

On commute, Mash_Babu and gulfIndian are right - if you plan to commute to OMR on a daily basis, it is not possible. Last week I drove thru the outer ring road connecting Madhuravoil and Tambaram, the drive was as good as the drives in US. It takes about 45 mins to reach Tambaram, but to reach OMR it is another story. If you can get a job in Ambattur Estate, where some software companies have opened office, then life would be very good. TCS has one office and HCL has 3 in this place. This leads to next point.

Because software companies are coming near this place, the price of real estatate has shotup. A 40x60 plot costs more than one crore.

There are some good things I want to mention. There are a few good swimming pools and a good tennis court for kids. All good restarunts are within reach - Saravana Bhavan, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Subway, etc

Thanks a lot for all the information. I was away on a trip and came back yesterday. From all the postings it is clear to me that working in OMR and living in Annanagar/Mogappair/Nolumbur is out of question. One has to get a job in ambattur or in and around nungambakkam on the other side if we are willing to travel for about 45 minutes.
Another question. When we drive around ambattur industrial estate, I see a lot of IT parks in the building stages (huge buildings). Any idea what IT companies have started or are going to start operations here in the near future may be 6 months to one yr down the line?

Regards
Peace_lover

I have some more questions and will send a PM to you. Thanks once again for all the useful information.
