Hi All,
I was looking at a property 4 Kms before Mahabs. Just wondering what is the distance between thirvanmiyur and mahabalipuram.
Also the distance between OMR IT companies and mahabalipuram.
Also if we plan to R2I to that place ,do you know any good schools along ECR.
We want to return to madras only if we get a plot near sea but prices of the sea side plots are skyrocketing :emcry: :emsad: . So was thinking if we go little farther in the city may be its affordable. hence all these questions.
R2I gurus pls shed some light on the practical hurdles in our decision.
we are not too worried abt tsunami as we currently live in a place where earthquake is possible any moment:(
We would like to go to a place with good sea view and if possible private road to sea:D . so wanted to know the above facts before investing our money
thanks for your time
gvi

Mahabs is about 45 minutes drive (I am estimating about 30km distance from Thiruvanmiyur).
Vel's Billabong intends to start a branch in Injambakkam, which is about 10 km from Thiruvanmiyur. Their primary school branch will continue to be in Neelangarai.
But for really the best schools in Chennai, you are stuck with being in the heart of the city among narrow roads and ugly traffic.
Also be aware that for the property to get construction "approval" it cannot be within 500m of the coast. But many of these rules are not properly enforced.

If you have a little time, here is the best way to find out distances.
1. Install Google Earth (
http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html)
2. Then use this ruler tool to measure actual distances (Tools -->Ruler)
A small pop-up shows up for the Ruler capability.
3. Since this is a long distance, I would recommend you use the "path" tab in the ruler-pop up
4. Then zoom out to see Tiruvanmiyur and Mahabs in the screen
5. Then use this path utility to measure the distance. This utility is useful to measure multi-point distances. So you can break at turns and windings, and then keep continuing and you can see the distance measured cumulatively.
I just did this and the distance from Tiruvanmiyur to Mahabs is 41.9 Kms.

I never tried the ruler before. It was really nice. I was measuring distance between Adayar and Kelambakkam, sholinganallur vs Camp Road and Kelamabakkam, sholinganallur it looks camp road is closer. Befoe using this scale I used to think the other way. Thanks.

Hi gvi,
I have seen places near Mahabalipurame, my cousin has just acquired adjacent to Golden Sun beach resort probaly 5 kms before M'purame, he got for 17l/g. All these places are close to beach (500 meters rule will be breached) but so many buildings are there even 30 meters from waves, so who cares.
I am looking around for placing my capital around that area as well, so you are on the right move. It's so nice to be close to beach and wake up with sea view (i have a fantastic view from my bath tub) kind of luxury I could not afford back in Europe.:emsmilep:

@gvi - Where do you propose to buy? 4km before Mahabs is not very well developed. Have you taken safety and security into consideration? What about neighbours and community? I have a couple of grounds just 1 km from Mahabs that I bought recently and after a visit there I feel it would take a very long time (a couple of decades) for the area to develop. There are other obstacles to overcome, some of which may be getting constant power, internet or cable providers, even shops nearby. I dont want to discourage you but just sharing my opinion.

i have one option near kovalam..it costs about 25L/ground and another 4kn from mahabs (not sure of the name of the village) at 11L/ground.
I just wonder if these are too high? I could live a life of middle class if i go to india at this rate :(

Gvi,
I hope ur dream comes true. but in reality living with family anywhere after Uthandi on the ECR side does not seem to be a good idea for the next 2-3 years. i have a property in Muttukadu right before MGM and there is no way I can live there. all the constructions that come in that area are either resorts or guest houses. so with no or little neighbors we will definitely feel deserted. also anywhere after the uthandi toll you see only resorts and all sorts of weekend places with so many night activities going on, one might definitely feel unsafe. i am not trying to scare you, just giving my opinion. so ifyou definitely want to live on the beach ur options right now are palavakkam, kottivakkam, neelangarai and injambakkam.
even my dream before r2ing was to have a beach bungalow. but now that i am in Chennai I dont seem that to happen in the very near term.
one option for you would be buy apts with beach view like Rani meyyammai towers.
