Schools in Outer Ring Road area/admission in July: please help!

Hi,

I am not strictly an R2I as I currently live in Bombay, but I am in need of help! I am an old Bangalorean returning to the city unexpectedly as my husband has been transferred there with effect from mid-July. His date of moving cannot be changed, though it is possible for me to live in Bombay for another 6 months while waiting for school admissions. His office will be in the Outer Ring Road, an area I am totally unfamiliar with. I am looking for schools for my two children aged 10 ( entering 5 std) and 6 ( 1st std) both studying in an ICSE school in Bombay. Both have taken Hindi, so no problems with second language, and I am happy for them to learn Kannada as a third language.

I am hoping to minimise commute for both kids and husband, plus am looking for an ICSE/CBSE school, so I am looking at DPS East in Sarjapur, Bethany in Koramangala and as a last resort Inventure or Greenwood High( tho I am unsure if they are worth the high fees). We will rent a house near the school wherever we get admission. Unfortunately, the admission process for most schools is over and they seem unwilling to consider transfer cases. My questions:

(1) Are there any ICSE schools in the Sarjapur area which consider transfer cases in the middle of the year? DPS east has asked me to register but are likely full up.

(2) Any forum members with kids in Inventure? I am reluctant to go down the intl school route but they have rolling admissions and have vacancies for my kids. I am very unsure about their academic standard. In my experience, the so called "intl" schools are often a euphemism for poor maths/science curriculums! I don't want a cramming school, but also don't want a school which turns out kids unfit to survive in the Indian educational system. Their fees are also stratospheric. Greenwood High seems another in the same mould.

(3) Any members with feed back on Bethany?

(4) Any other schools I should be considering with a short ( up to half an hour) commute for kids?

Would be very grateful for any information at all.

You could try the VIBGYOR High campus on Haralur Road..

Polya, thanks for your reply. I did consider VIBGYOR but they appear to be involved in several controversies over accreditation and fee hikes in both Mumbai and Bangalore.

I have searched through the forums, but there don't seem to be too many reviews of mid-level schools.

Hi,

You can consider Gear Innovative, Primus, and Prakriya. I do not have personal experience with any of these schools.
There is St Peters as well on Sarjapur road. A colleague was not happy with this school and switched to DPS East.

All the best!

Thanks, Parkash. Just in case there is anyone else who finds this useful, I was seriously considering DPS East , but a friend with children says the teaching is awful and the maths syllabus is actually taught in Hindi!
