We are planning to visit Bengaluru for about 4 days during the 3rd week of September. This is our first trip after R2I. Visiting with family, have a very close friend in Bengaluru, so we will be staying at their home. He doesn't know much as he recently R2I to B'lore.
As college student have visited B'lore couple of times, but those times din't know the world outside Pub.:cool
But this time, with family so planning for more family oriented stuff. Whenever I visit any place I like to savor the local cuisine and learn about culture and do some scenic/adventure day trips. Help, suggestion and tips from our B'lore friends is greatly appreciated.
I had once watched about MTR restaurant in a Travel channel, so would like to visit that. Could you please let me know what not to miss in B'lore, in terms of authentic local food, any scenic day trips etc. I am not interested in malls or shopping centers.
Thanks,

I do not consider MTR to be anything but a regular joint (not authentic) which is highly priced. I would recommend SLV near Ragi Gudda (JP Nagar 2nd phase) for masala dosa and Kadamba (check for locations) for some authentic Kannada dishes. These are small no frill joints, but offer tasty food. I am not sure if the place is still existent, but I considered Janata Hotel in Malleswaram to make the tastiest masala dosas in the whole wide world!
As for visiting places, I would certainly recommend places outside of B'lore than within. There are several historic and scenic places around Bangalore and at such short distances that you can cover several places in a day or two if you are planning to rent a car/ drive.

I am not from Bangalore but lived there for about 5 years. Below are the few places I am aware of and have been to, both within city or a day's trip:
Scenic and adventures - Nandi Hills, Siva Samudra, sangama
Temples and historic - ISKON, Siva temple within Kempfort, Belur - Halebid - Shravanabelagola (KSTDC offers a one day trip to all three

Alas, there's nothing to experience in Bangalore anymore..
If this was 10 -15 years ago, you could have started having breakfast at MTR with "benne masale dosai" , catch an auto to Vidhan Soudha. Walk into Cubbon Park and make it to MG Road, Stop by at India Coffee House for a cuppa hot coffee and a break.. Walk down Brigade , Stop by Church street for a sumptous meal @ coconut grove. Stop by for dessert at KC Das for some mouth watering Rosagulla and Misti Dhoi.
Walk into MG Road and do some shopping or just enjoy the nice view and the pretty girls.
FF to 2010, it's concrete pillars and dug up road.. Too many cars and people who got no time to stop and enjoy any simple pleasures.
Good luck ! You are likely to visit another Mall now and nothing more...

Kempfort is replaced by Total mall. I doubt new people(like auto drivers, taxi) would even remember Kemport name. you better off asking as Shiva temple near ISRO/Manipal center OR Jeevan Bheema Nagar.
Belur, Helebeedu, ShravanaBelagola and not considered local sight seeing places but if you have time in hand, sure worth visiting.
For local places, you can consider, Bangalore Palace, Neharu Planitorium.
If you want to experience real chaotic life of India, visit Mantri Mall @ Malleswaram. Oh boy, I just could not take the noise and hangama there.

MR, when was the last time you visited BLR? Please write about your visit sometimes. It will be interesting to read your perspective of the changes you experienced. Thanks

Hmm...I am not aware of this as I left Bangalore about 5 years ago, albeit I visit when ever I am in India :(

Although these places are little away from bangalore, all three can be covered in a day, especially if you take KSTDC tour, which I thought was worth, again 6 years ago.

How come I never saw any mention of Cubbon Park, Lalbagh? Do they all exist or have they turned these into Concrete Jungle too. .
# 4 post brings back my memories..
