Hi,

We are moving to bangalore after being in US for 12 years and have not done any research at all.. I have an offer that I cannot so no, so we are moving by mid august. I have the following immediate questions that need some local input and guidence.

Schools : I have 2 kids one is going to start 4th grade and one is going to Kinder , now the schools in Bangalore have already began I'm not too worried about my kinder but my my 4th grader will have issue catching up?

I have no Idea of Bangalore never visited, my office location is Hosur Road, Bangalore – 560 100. What are the good recommended schools near by ? and the places to live near by.

House : Any idea or guidence on good communities

Any help in this is greatly appreciated...based on the input I'm planning on calling the schools and talk to them from US as I have a very short time...

I believe Karnataka has mandatory Kannada learning (you might need to cross-check on this as I am not sure. )

How far is your office from Hosur. It would be easy for you to get accommodation and also to get admissions in schools (of course, money talks :) ), in case it's Hosur.

FFH, this confuses me to hell. Some schools go on and on with this but some schools are totally opposite. Don't know how. I n my kids school itself, they have option for II languge, either Kannada or Hindi.

In any case, OP, you will find schools with no kannada. Be careful with this(II and III language option) since your kid is in 4th grade.

we moved last year in July and I was exactly in the same situation, 1st kid in 4th and second in 1st grade. there is a school in bennerghatta road (closer to NICE road - toll road), which will take u faster to hosur road. School name is "The Samhita Academy" and the administration is very nice and co-operative. Wish u all the best. 1st language : English (obvious), 2nd language : Hindi/Kannada, 3rd language : French/Sanskrit

hangon, take this post with grain of salt. As I mentioned earlier, each school has their own rules for II and III language and it still beats me how school can adopt their own policy.

As far as I know:
1.Under CBSE syllabus, second language starts from 1 grade and III language starts in V or VI grade.
2.Under ICSE, II and III language starts from I grade itself.

For your 4th grader kid, it is going to be too taxing to catch up 2 language if you choose ICSE but again depends on the kid as well.

Ist language is always(most of the time) is going to be English only. They will have one or two english language text books and other subjects like maths, social studies and science are taught in English only.
For better understanding, keep 1st language aside. Consider it as medium of instruction/study.

II language starts from I grade itself under both CBSE and ICSE syllabus and languages offered varies from Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit and in some schools few foriegn languages as well.

III langauge starts from V or VI grade under CBSE syllabus, from I grade in case of ICSE syllabus and the languages offered are Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Sankri and sometimes foreign languages like french, german.

Few more schools to consider..

Gear Innovative International school

Vibgyor

DPS

Indus

Primus

My 4th grader has English,Kannada and hindhi. She does not know both hindhi or kannada.Looks many of her classmates are like her and the teachers provide worksheets with basics for those kids. She has an option to choose french in 5th grade instead of Kannada. So, she needs to concentrate on Hindhi more ( will need a tutor). My 1st grader has started hindhi and kannada from scratch and so she is fine. I do not think you will have to worry about school admissions or finding an apartment.Goodluck on your move!

My daughter is in Greenwood High 4th grade (ICSE) and she is studying only French and this is the first yr of French, so she is starting from scratch. No catching up to do. From Grade 5, she will start Kannada - again from scratch. If you give an attested (notary/gazetted officer) copy of passport + 2 yrs of marks card from US school, ICSE board can allow your child to take French.

We moved to India this summer from US and my son is in 6th grade at Vibgyor. His 1st language is English, 2nd language Hindi and 3rd language is Kannada. There are other kids in his class with 2nd language French and 3rd language Kannada. Some kids took 2nd language Hindi and 3nd language French. So I know for sure Kannada is not mandatory. But the rule is not same for all kids. It all depends on where they studied the previous year. The kid who tooK 3rd language French moved from Chennai.
