Hi,
We will r2i mid of 2013 to Bangalore and work location is at ORR/Sarjapur road. Looking for schools around this area. Based on the forum info, NPS in HSR, DPS, Greenwood, GEAR in Sarjapur seems to be good options. Any experience with GEAR school? Our kids will go into 4th and 2nd grade next year and have NO exposure to hindi. Given this, how do we go about selecting syllabus CBSE or ICSE and second language? If it makes sense, we will sign them up for Hindi class this year so that they get some basics before r2i in 2013. How easy or should I say difficult :-) to get admission in these schools? Does it make sense to plan a visit to complete the admission process ?
To make the transition relatively easy, would going with not so famous schools first (such as Prakriya green wisdom school) and move to NPS/DPS type of schools the following year help?
We are planning to rent a 3 BR apartment in this area. I hear that there are several properties including Shobha, Adarsh palm etc. Any suggestion for ~25K to 30K rent in this area ?
Appreciate your help and comments..,
Thank you very much
Dev

hi dev, I was reading your forum and actually thinking in the same direction as you are. There is a difference though as you have finalsed your job.
i have been researching and finding out that east bangalore will be a good location.
Regarding school, I am hearing that admission will start by oct-nov this year
I am reading good reviews about greenwood, inventure, primus, gear. Nps, dps appear to be good but seeing lot of class strength.
Windering if you can share your research experiences as wewell

We are R2I ing in May 2013 and we went to Bangalore this summer to check out schools and apartments. We loved Greenwood High based on customer service and the campus. Inventure was a close second. Not a fan of Gear, Ryan, etc. As far as taking Hindi, the school itself recommended not to take Hindi for the 4th grader since there will be too much catch up. For my 4 year old, we are taking Hindi.
Regarding apartments, we liked a few like like Adarsh Palm, Shoba Daffodils, Brigade, etc. The best is to move there, stay somewhere, go to commonfloor.com or one of the web sites, find brokers for each property and check out several. You will find that some have higher NRI concentration than others, and each one has slight variations and it all depends on what you are looking for. You will have to see in person and pick one.

Thank you Madhu. I tried contacting Greenwood with no success. Do you know how easy/difficult the admission is for oversees students in Greewood high? Also what do they suggest for second language for oversees 4th+ grade student. I spoke to few schools including Harvest international & oakridge. Hearing good feedback on Harvest but it is relatively small / not well known at this point.
Agree on the apartment approach. Were you able to check the rent in these places ?
Nanair, based on what I heard/checked, admission to NPS (particularly Indira nagar) is close to impossible for us:-) DPS east seems to be ok but we will likely settle with Harvest, Greenwood, Oakridge atleast for the first year as it stands now.

We too did not get any response when we wrote from USA.Once when we landed we visited schools and got admission.
DPS..heard the student strength is high. Many kids in our area go there.NPS...difficult to get admission.
Apartments are available in the sobha apartments in bellandur.Rent is ~25k for 3bed/3bath.Kids settle down very quickly.Tuition teachers for various subjects are available and I believe kids would pick up fast.I taught hindi alphabets, little words and small sentences to write (that much only I knew) which is helping and goes to hindi tution too.

Hi Ravi, Good to know that you got the admission. Congrats. Can you share admission/annual fee please ? It is not there in their website, also not able to get it from them. For comparision, I looked at Inventure web site, their fees are in the range of 2.5 to 3L. Wondering if it is in same line for Greenwood high. Thank you, Dev.

I think Greenwood is around 2L/year including all kinds of fees they extort throughout the year.

Thank you. Finally got the info from school, it is inline with what you mentioned here.
We are going with
greenwood high based on feedback/comments from friend's circle and online. I have received good feedback on Harvest, and also I spoke to them. It is in my 2nd list incase first does not work out.
