Dealing with BSNL is a breeze in my experience with them in the past one year. To open a new connection, walk-in with about Rs.3,000 in cash to pay as deposit (they accept cards too), xerox copies of ID proof (Passport is fine) and address proof (house-tax, electric bill, lease agreement etc). The staff are courteous and professional and prompt in service.

Other than the fact that I had to walk in to a customer service center to have a new connection is very similar to my US experience. It took them about 4 days to give me my new connection.

Their DSL service is the best and I never had a down-time since I had it installed. Speeds are reasonable. I took the H3300 plan (Rs.3,300 per month, almost unlimited usage)

The staff are pretty professional and very customer service oriented right from the bottom line men to the top AGM. The real surprising thing is that the line man didn't even ask me his Dusserah Mamool. I was ready to dole out good chunk of money but he never asked. I caught hold of him after Dusserah and gave him what I felt he deserves for the great service I am getting from him
