Hi All,
We are on path for R2I in 2017 Q1. We are finalizing for my son's school - Admission to first grade.
Looks for some reviews on Canadian International school - We visited the school, my son seem to like it after spending half a day at the school, talking to teachers, sitting in their class. But fees seems high ~10laks/yr. And distance from Manyata tech park (close to where we stay) seems to be more than ~ 20 mins
Visited Trio - Fees reasonable. Very friendly staff, but school campus seems smaller. Compared to standards of teaching @ Candian Internation school, Trio falls short.
BIS - Fees OK. But the academic focus seems to be lacking. More focus on extra curricular activities. Teachers seem too nice to control kids.
I want feedback on Stonehill International we missed this school on our list. How much is the fees? Parents of kids going to this school, please share your feedback.
Stonehill International vs Canadian International - which better?

Both these schools are great in terms of infrastructure and faculty. Stone hill does have a great campus. While the built up area is not that huge there is a of open space for kids to play various sports. Thats the one I would opt for. You may also want to check on
Vidya Shilp Academy. Great campus at a relevantly reasonably price.

Stonehill owned by Embassy builders was the most expensive school in Bangalore when we were exploring couple of years ago.
Is Canadian asking you 10L for 1st grade? My invoice for my HS kid for next year is 7.5L. Keep in mind, school fees goes up by 10% each year.
I see no benefit in these school until the Middle school years. You'll typically see several Japanese and Korean kids in elementary in Canadian. Canadian has been around for 10 years and is popular for it's IB program in grade 11-12.
Typically kids spend only 2-3 years in these schools as parents are usually on assignment in India. Teachers from the west are also on 2-3 year contract and there's huge turnover.
You may also want to check out Aditi Mallya if you plan to live in North Bangalore. Vidyashilp is also a good school for elementary kids.
There's an dramatic increase in # of schools offering IGCSE and IB program due to huge demand. With Real Estate down, Builders realized there's money in International school business. Existing schools are having hard time retaining Indian teachers certified in IGCSE/IB teaching.

So what are these international schools all about. In their own terms they call it Holistic education. A combination of academics and extra curricular activities. As this is done in the same 6 hours of school there is bound to be some compromise in studies or is there.
The aspect to consider here is how much can a 7 or 10 year old absorb. Can he actually sit on one chair for 6 hours with two breaks and understand everything that a teacher has to say. All the stories, spellings grammar, all of it. Maybe not
If there one aspect that as a parent I hold myself accountable for its how much physical development by way of a diet balance and physical activity I offer my child. Its absolutely necessary for them to have at-least one physical activity a day thats exerting enough to drain them not just physically but emotionally.
When I was in middle school like 30 year back I still can recall the way I use to wait for the one 35 minute sport class we use to have in a week. Well sports to say it was one football being kicked around without a coach. It was the only time I use to get to stretch my legs and felt a lot lighter once I was through. I confess I hated the place even though it was known to be one of the best schools in my city.
Even now when I pass by my school during their home time can see the kids coming out of school. Either fat with glasses or skinny with even more powerful glasses.
Dont our children deserve more than just a good academic school. A place that they wake up and say I like my school, today I have a painting competition there, a debate on global warming. A school where they can travel in a clean air-conditioned bus, a school that has clean toilets and a clean hygienic canteen. This may not sound that much of a deal to parents but to a student its all their life is all about.
