How much can BBMP suck at city planning? How did they allow the construction, how did they accept all the property taxes, issue these plots official documents/khata - then comeback only to demolish? Demolition is now in the best interest of the city, but its only fair that the people who profited from the approval need to be behind bars.

I agree with you. The people who have profited must be punished. But in real world in India it will never happen. Money, power and goondaism are the things that talks in India and nothing else. Stay away from these head aches and stay away from India if you could and you will have a happy and peaceful life.

The stories of huge apartment complexes being on rajakaluve, just fade without any action from BBMP. But these individual owners cannot obviously handle BBMP as well as the big builders. Very sad.

The lakes are interconnected by these rajakaluves, the encroachments on these natural canals leads to flooding in the city. There are 3000 buildings sitting on just 2km stretch rajakaluve from Madiwala lake.
This will turn into big money making scheme for the BBMP officials, as there are many lakes and rajakaluves that exists only on the bbmp survey maps.

If they only tear down the 3000 buildings, I do not see how they can make any money on it? Can you please elaborate on what you had in mind? I am thinking/hoping they will end up paying a lot of tax payer money as compensation to these home owners. I hope they clearly mark the Rajakaluve and actually build broad concrete walled canals that flow to water treatment plants and reservoirs. I am no city planner, but so many common sense ideas pop up in my head. No idea when these Rajakaluves were working. During my childhood, I regularly played (paper boats, wash bicycle, swim etc) at Puttenhalli kere, Jaraganahalli kere, and sarakki lake every time it rained. Even then, these were not connected to anything, they just overflowed everywhere.

The demolition plan is done in Bommanahalli constituency as of now , but there are encroachments in all the major lakes as seen in the link below.
SURVEY ON LAKE ENCROACHMENTS:
http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in/files/file/Survey_on_Lake_Encroachments.pdfThe google maps do not show rajakaluve but they are linked and water flows only during the rain.
I see one near my property as per the BBMP land records below, but there is a 9 story apartment built on it and appears to be flowing out of the apartment into the street. I know that there is no water course as shown in the survey.

Its sad that many dwellings are being teared down... but in most cases the owners wont even be knowing that there was a canal/kaluve/road there. Many of these canals have been diverted and original path is dry. Once a place remains dry for few years, someone comes up with documents and sells to unsuspecting buyer(usually not a local). Even big apartments have fallen prey for this .. Mantri Tranquil (
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/426701/apartment-residents-lose-tranquility-bescom.html ) comes to mind. The demolition in Sarjapur was really bad... most properties built recently and would be easily 1.5-2 Crs. Mostly IT folks.
Evert two years when rain creates havoc, they demolish few houses and then nothing concrete happens. I am yet to see even one case of official or builder being punished.

How do we know if an address is part of Storm water drain ? I can't imagine people's state of mind and shock, when they see their house torn apart in hours. Will these owners get compensated at market rate ?
Looks like now they have fileds criminal charges against BBMP officials who have authorized these constructions.

By the time these cases get on the docket, have hearings, postponements, etc... the homeowners may devolve into amphibians or fish, and begin to like their lake property.

"The government has not committed any fraud on the people. It is some officials who connived with the builders and cheated people. The government has no role in it"
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/564328/dont-rely-govt-agencies-check.htmlMy dad commented that the BBMP officers take additional risk in making super shady deals in the last couple years of their tenure. This way they can retire with a good package and the new officer can easily wave his hands and plead ignorance.
