Rushed move to Bangalore - Need suggestions for rentals/schools

HI,

We are moving to Bangalore in a week or two. Its going to be a rushed move since my wife's new company (in Embassy Golf Links IT park) wants her to join within 2 weeks (but they said she can take some time later to settle down further).

We R2I'ed to Pune this year and that went smooth because we had many local contacts (plus I'm from Pune) to help us out. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the kinds of offers we (especially my wife) were getting in Pune, and also with the general work culture. Then when my wife got a very good offer in Bangalore from a company that matched her work culture expectations, we decided to move.

In Bangalore we know absolutely no one and hence we're both very tense.:emsad:

We are exhausted from our r2i and we were just about feeling settled in Pune and now we're moving and packing again. The fact that we have a 2 year old daughter is adding to the logistics issues.

So (as usual :)) I'm relying on r2iclub for some good advice. We are now scouring the net and poring over wikimapia and trying to figure out what areas and what apartment complexes we should try to rent apartments in.

Our requirements are:

1. Minimum 3 bedroom + 3 bathroom (servant quarters good to have)
2. Minimum 1900+ sq ft
3. Good, safe, newish and clean apartment complex
4. A nice park in the complex for my daughter to play
4. Budget: 25-30k (Not sure about this - this is just after reading craigslist)
5. Not more than 30 minutes driving from Embassy Golf Links
6. Presence of very good preschools nearby (my daughter is 2.5)

Some members have suggested IndiraNagar and Koramangala but flats matching our requirements seem to start at 40k so Im not sure I can fit that into our budget.

Any other suggestions for apartment complexes and areas to stay would be really very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

(PS: For those who are familiar with Pune, we are staying in Ganga Satellite in Wanowrie (2100 sq ft 3BHK+servant quarters for 21000/month), so we are looking for a similar place in Bangalore.)

Gheeboy,

My suggestion was with respect to commute times. Koramangala and Indiranagar are well-established cosmopolitan part of Bangalore. They are on either side of GL IT Park. Commute from there will be 10-20 mins.

Try Raheja residency (I think that's the name) in Koramangala. That meets all your requirements except that it's not a new apartment. It's been around for 7-8 years.

You can also try Mantri Sarovar on ORR in HSR layout.

For these large apartments, have some acquaintance talk to the security person there, typically they know the rental availability.

I know this guy mahesh. One of my fren availed his services in march and they had really good experience with him.
Apart from that even i believe koramangla and Indiranagar are nice place to stay. Lot of shopping malls and nice areas to visit.
The only problem these days is traffic....It is really surprising that though companies and foreign investment has increased a lot in bangalore but govt is doing nothing to improve the infrastructure. Bangalore was my fav place 5-6 years back but i really dont want to get stuck in the bangalore traffic now. I wish somebody could do something abt this traffic problem.

Are you going to live in Bangalore or just visiting?

If just visiting for under 2 wks, avoid driving. It's not worth it.

If living, better learn driving - use automatic car to make it easy if you have any apprehensions.

I live here in Bangalore in Jayanagar.

Sure you can drive on a sunday morning. There'll be hardly any traffic to negotiate.

Amongst the places to see for a first-timer, I'd say
go to forum mall, watch a movie in Gold class,
Iskcon temple (people say it's the best iskcon they've seen),
Bull temple (you can skip this if you want),
drive thru cubbon park to vidhana soudha and high court,
early morning 5AM walk around lal bagh.
Pubs: plenty on church street, brigade road and residency road.
Dinner with a view: Ebony (on top of barton center) or Copper Chimney (on top of bangalore central). You can ask for an outside seat if it's not raining. Paparazzi in Manipal Center - ask for window seat, no outside seating. Book early if you want those seating.

If you want to see crazy bangalore development, go to electronic city and whitefield during the day.

Perhaps a visit to Mysore given the Dussera festival is going on. Many performances (Sonu Nigam, Usha uthup and some more) and events (half-marathon, parade, etc) happening there.
