I think the traffic discipline is just missing here ... people driving on the wrong side, changing lanes without indicator or even without glancing in the rear view mirror, and jumping red lights all the time -- and all this right in front of impotent traffic policemen, who don't enforce any rules.

Part of the problem is the zillions of cabbies in/around hi-tech city who drive really rash. But the sad part is that I see educated-looking people also driving like bozos, without any courtesy for others on the road.

That is easily what I miss the most about USA -- the traffic discipline and courtesy among drivers. Very frustrating to drive in India.[/quote]

If you want to avoid scratching, bending, denting, and hitting, You need to be "Steering" in stead of driving on HYD roads. Just let your car glide wherever you find a space on the road as long as it is in the direction of your travel. I learnt it hardway, after a couple of scratches on my car.

Can you imagine vehicles taking U-turn on fly overs? And how about two-wheelers being lifted on the road dividers to cross-over to the other side? It really is pathetic!:mad:[/quote]


This is so true -- I drive a lot in HYD when ever I go back and I find the best way to drive is NOT necessarily expect or wish you could follow US rules and traffic common sense, but instead learn to SEE the SPACE. You need to go from one empty spot to the next -- with constant eye/hand/head communication with the motorists that are also eyeing your empty spot :)

It's easier said than done, i don't feel like I've come close to really learning the Zen of driving in HYD.
