My kid will be going to 3rd grade in Glendale. I'm in a dilemma about which language she should choose , hindi or Telugu as her 2nd language. Initially we thought of having her choose hindi so that she would be learning national lang which is sopken by wider audience than local language., but the principal asked me to think twice saying that CBSe hindi is very tough.
As of now she doesnt know to read or write Hindi or Telugu since we moved here just few weeks back. Our native language is telugu.
Please provide any advice or suggestions

I went to a CBSE school while growing up in Jamshedpur. After my X we moved to Hyderabad and joined the regular Intermidiate stream.
But I did compare the curriculam and must say that the second language Hindi is same all over the country. So I would imagine that Telugu being only in AP would definitely have an impact on the level of difficulty.
**I have to mention here that I graduated from X long long ago (in the early nineties). Please keep us updated on how your kids cope up with the second language as our kids are in the same boat. They do not know how to read or write in either lanugage. They reluctantly speak Telugu, but have no clue about Hindi.

I would recommend go with Telugu for 2nd language at 3rd grade level. Any way in 4th grade, she needs to take 3rd language and then learn Hindi like we all did. My understanding is even CBSE has 3rd language from 5th grade. I am not very certain though since my daugter will go to 4th grade only this June.
Unless she has head start in Hindi, telugu may be easier to pick-up since she might have better comprehension atleast talking and listening though she coudl not read or writer.
Last year we were in same situation and my daughter took telugu. In 2-3 months, she became comfortable. she knew alphabets etc while in USA but it was more like 1st grade level and not enough for 3rd grade.
Even if she has some difficulty, I heard Glendale is very good at supporting/helping NRI kids

Thanks suny and dreamsofr2i.
I have started on Hindi for my daughter couple of months back , so she knows to write the alphabets. So she has little knowledge on hindi rather than telugu. I myself did SCC Hindi as 2nd lang though my mother tongue is telugu. Not being aware that CBSE hindi is way too tough than SSC hindi we thought of putting her also in hindi 2nd lang and started on that.
May be I'll talk to teachers and see what they say.
