We are planning to R2i in April 2008. My kid born in mar 2002 is studying 1st grade in US currently.
My preferred schools are 1)Delhi Public school
2)Bharathiya vidhya bhavan
3)Other CBSE schools near Gachibowli
>>>>choices are perfectly ok
I would like to know:
1) For the year 2009-2010 which standard should I seek admission in India. Is it 3 std or 2 std?
could be considered for 3rd grade but if ur child is studying 1st grade I would not push the child to 3rd grade as the jump would be steep.
There will be a lot of pace difference and plus you have the 2nd language learning curve.
2) While leaving US what documents should I get from the US school which would help or is needed for school admission in India.
completion of the 1st grade and report card what ever format the schools there follow. Also a letter from the principal would help if not necessary just stating for the records as to when and what grade they attended. These will be considered as Transfer certificate which very important after grade one on.
Additionally medical certificate with immunizations. just get thestandard blue form they give there.
3) I have started teaching hindi(as second language). I would like to know what entrance tests will be there for the grade 3 or 2. I see that mk2007 has posted the test details for 2 std. Can I have the same for 3 rd std.
Based on grade two portion I can pretty much tell you that
1) opposites
2) samyukta askhar
3) picture composition
4) filling in the blanks given a picture to make a story.
5) Reading comprehension of simple paragraphs.
6) singular plural
7) tenses
at minimum these will be covered in DPS or any school.
4) My understanding so far about DPS:
a)Admission seems to start after dec 3rd week.
true but for grade one on it may strat from about feb march timeframe. Keep in touch with school from dec on schools don;t necessarily declare publicly the correct dates and registration forms are given out for not more than a week usually.
b)I need to get the form, fill and give it back in 2 working days with the needed docs attached.
yes:emwink:
c) I would like to know if there will be any shortlisting done based on the number of applications received or all will be called for the entrance test.
:emwink: No all applicants have to undergo entrance test with no exception.
d) Is there anyway to avoid or postpone the entrance if it is before may 2009. At around which month these take place. At which times are parents and student presence needed.
 chances are you will hear a no although you can still meet with principal and arrange for this.
See here is how it worked last year. The entrance happened in May and in less than 3 weeks they decided the shortlisted folks.
Although I heard again in May they conducted another test for management quota ( read pretty high donations in addition to fees) but possible to do.

All said I will still talk to management and the principal about such a case. I think they do accommodate although I cannot say for sure. In India every rule can be an exception in itself especially true in school admissions.
e) Is admission purely based on merit or other criteria?
:D:D:D:eek:
Sorry for making a pun of the question but I think you have an answer in it.

The more elite the school is less kids are taken by pure merit. Although if the child has done exceptionally good then usually they don;t miss the boat. Not all schools display their performance during entrance.
But at the same time to be fair to schools, there are many instances of more than couple of children scoring the same marks, in which case the descision lies with the school authorities and during such time the parents and childs interaction performance is counted.
The same info about admission for BVB or other CBSE schools near Gachibowli would be greatly appreciated?
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan gives its applications out in April first week and entrance is conducted april last week or may first week.

Irrespective of schools the admissions are usually finalized by may end as schools reopen June 2nd week.

That said doors are rarely closed moolah sometimes opens invisbile doors.

apologize if I have gone aboard in my remarks...
