Any school having an even a slight good reputation has extreme amount of demand.
Nursery is the entry level for most schools. Getting a seat in a reputed school at this stage is the best option. As the child is at higher grades the headache gets worse. Most of the good schools barely have any vacancy (or claim so). This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Timelines
* Schools generally give out the application forms between December first week and January last week. By end of December forms are generally given out and registration procedures are completed by end of Jan for kids in class nursery, PP1 and PP2.
* For classes 1 and up forms are issued around the same time however their registration and tests etc continue thru February. But most schools give their decision of admission around March as that is when a school typically finds out their actual vacancies. Some schools however wait until end of March to issue applications for higher classes.

The funda here is that the schools will actually know their vacancy position only around March as the parents have to give a 2 month notice for withdrawal of the child from school. Most of the schools require both parents at interview/interaction time.

Some of the schools that are popular area wise: (I will mention schools that I know have some name and good reputation in no particular order). Also I may have missed out on some school names, others can fill the gaps.

Friends:

I am an NRI living with his family in South America. Wife is also from South America so the kids (7 and 9) have grown up speaking mostly Spanish and some English. I might be moving to Hyderabad in the near future (not decided but is a distinct possibility) and would like to locate a school that would be able to take my kids in. We lived in Trinidad, an English speaking country for an year, and the situation for my kids was not totally hopeless. They joined school there and managed to get some of the top marks in English exams, even among the other English speaking local kids!

Will someone be able to help me with relevant info?

Hello,

I'm looking for school admissons for my 3yr old son and need some input from the people who might have idea about schools in HYD. I'm looking for schools around Banjara Hills,Jubli hills, gachibowli and considering Meridian,DPS and Bharatiya vidhya bhavan. But getting admission into Bhavan's is tough and so I'm left with meridian and DPS. Does anyone know anything about Meridian and DPS ? which one is better ?
Thanks.

.
Are the admissions already open for 4th grade (2007-2008)?

Kondapur area has basically 3-4 schools in immediate vicinity. List is in order of colseness to area

Chirec

Merdian ( they opened one new campus in Madhapur area)

DPS

OAKRDGE

SRINIDHI

Other schools a bit further away that have good reputation is Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. This school does not have transport to Kondapur area.
Among reasonable prices its a very good school. It has been consistently maintaining its reputation since 1980's.
I myself am a product of that school and willing to put my kids in there IF vacancy is available.

INTERNATIONAL school (banjara hills...somewhere near punjagutta circle)

coming to where the transition is easy for your kid,
OAKRIDGE
DPS
CHIREC
International School

These schools would be ideal for you to try. I think admissions are over for
OAKRIDGE but you can call them and ask,

as of Jan 30th 2007 I was informed there were not vacancy in DPS or CHIREC but around april time frame they would have a better picture of vacany situation.

April last week Bharatiya vidya bhavan (BVB jubliee hills) will start their admission process.

Cost Oakridge tops the list in fleecing followed by DPS, CHIREC, Meridian (about the same) and later BVB.

I will be r2i to kondapur area this june too so I can vouch for the info i gave as i just got back from the field trip of admission.
