multispeciality hospital venture in hyderabad

To all those interested in the project,
I am usually a silent reader of the forum and the blogs. While I have benefited a lot as we R2I (family having moved to Hyd already and myself in the process of tying some loose ends before I too return to Hyd) from the wealth of information available on the forum; however, I have contributed very little.
I came across this thread recently, started by Dr N Kishore. I found the project interesting, and rather than posting through the group, I contacted Dr Kishore directly, and had a few initial discussions over the phone. We finally decided to meet face to face, as I was interested in learning more about the project. Both of us currently living in UK, it was a matter of finding a convenient time and place. Since Dr Kishore's wife was expecting their child anytime soon, I decided to travel from Scotland to England to meet him.
I met him last week, and had several hours of discussions. Firstly I was overwhelmed by his and his lovely wife's hospitality - from picking me up at the station to serving a sumptuous lunch of delicious hyderabadi chicken biryani, to dropping me off at the train station. By the way, he was also the first future R2Ier from the forum that I met. Thank you Dr Kishore and Mrs Kishore.
Here's my take on the business venture and the man behind it:
The person floating this multispeciality hospital appears to be knowing his stuff, not only about healthcare in India and UK, but also about the nitty gritty of running a business. I learnt that he has been a sort of businessman since he was 12! He helped run his family's medical shop in AP, after school hours, till he left his hometown to join Osmania Medical College. Ariving in UK for PG training, he decided to become a GP. He is now one of the youngest desi GP partners, in an area dominated by Native British GPs. He is also a member of the local GP consortium managing an annual budget of several Millions of pounds. He also manages a real estate company in Hyd. I am listing some of Dr K's achievements only to illustrate the dogged determination and the right business acumen and aptitude that I felt he displayed, that is required for establishing any successful business venture.
The business plans appear quite realistic and reasonable to me. They are based on sound market evaluation and gradual expansion plans, again based on future projected growth of healthcare industry in Hyderabad. During the past two years, I have been to Hyd a few times, and I have been around some large hospitals, doing home work with regards to setting up Psychiatric services on my own or joining them. Hence the idea really appealed to me that the beauty of setting up from scratch is that one wont have to compete directly with a colleague from the same speciality, as I felt it some times leads to an internal competition! We discussed various aspects of psychiatric streams of work, and he surprised me with an up to date knowledge of the subject and understanding of the market needs. We also discussed the identified areas where the hospital is to be setup, and also talked briefly about the finances - the possible sources, the costs and liabilities, as well as the laws, rules and regulations governing the running of the limited companies. I found the plans to be based on sound knowledge and a systematic and thorough approach, with a keen eye on the details.
Whilst there may already be existing a few R2I entrepreuneral partnerships developed through this forum, I came away from meeting Dr K, firm in the belief that one more R2I partnership was truly in the making!!!
We have heard and read a lot (in this very forum) about the poor inter personal skills of our indian doctors, and their lack of elementary bedside manners. These things have been hammered into us by our rigorous training, hence I feel that returning doctors from UK and US must join like minded folks to deliver quality service, with a smile.
While I cannot discuss the specifics, if anyone is interested in knowing more about the project, before meeting Dr K himself, please feel free to PM me. And if anyone is interested in a ride in a fancy Lexus and taste some delicious biryani, while discussing serious business, then one must hoist oneself upon the Kishores!
Cheers!
