Hello. I need with my India bank account. I have been struggling to close my resident bank account and Open a NRO/NRE Account. Here is my issue and would like hear if there is any way out. (1) I have a IDFC (locked) Infrastructure bond in DEMAT form. This will hit the 5 year mark in Dec 2016. (2) My resident bank account is LINKED to the DEMAT account (3) Bank say the DEMAT needs to "UNLINKED" to close the account and open a NRO Account (4) I was told I cannot open a NRO account because I am _not_ supposed to have a NRO and NRE account simultaneously I have spend good portion of time when I was in India with bank affairs but was unable to resolve it. People just made me run around and was unable to solve the problem. Does any one have any suggestion to re-mediate this issue? Thanks

Is there a reason why you would want to open the NRO/NRE account at the same bank?

No. I was pursing this purely from simplicity perspective. I was also told that it is by law you are not supposed to have a resident account and and NRE/NRO account.
