karagg, IMO, astrology is just a blame instrument.
Cultivating the character to own up to ones own responsibilities is the first step in defining the purpose of one's birth. Then listening to ones own conscience (intuition) is the second step in attaining the purpose...
Astrology in any form (vedic or scientific ) is just jus a blame instrument... instead of having the guts to say what i reap is what i sowed... i want to say that what i reap is because of stars and moons...
may be you can make Bobus :emwink: buy in to that astrological idea... it sounds oxymoronic to me ...

Your destiny is in your hands, not in the stars...

Rudra:
Am glad you dont think much of astrology.
There aint no scientific astrology.
And astrology aint merely a blame instrument - you have it in you to go beyond that and expose the truth - so feel free - I see no need to wear gloves - what needs to be protected and what is there to fear?
And a person that can be rational about astrology can be rational about other things too - so arise and soar with reason.

Rudra,
I believe the stars and moons are nothing but the responsibility of what I sow in my previous birth... So I do own responsibility of what I sow...
Also... I think you meant "consciousness" not "conscience" in your response ... "conscience" is social conditioning which is not a good thing... "consciousness" and "intuition" are good things
Thanks!

Bobus...
Astrology (in a way) can be abstracted as a means for just outsourcing stregnth...
A person who cannot insource stregnth/confidence from his/her own principles or values needs to look outside.
Most people resort to fixing blame to feel justified or strong... Some resort to astrology to keep the faith which is thousand fold better than fixing blame. But in the end insourcing from ones own principes shows the purpose is my point.
I didnt see a principle/belief statement (atleast a repharase from Dawkins idea) from Bobus. Instead i found the redirect to a website which shows where Bobus outsourced the stregnth of his argument from. In a way its another belief like a astro star, here its just a you-tube star, google star thats all...
I dont know if that makes any difference ? If you are happy so be it..

Karagg ability to define the purpose and work towards it shows the power... be happy if the astrological idea means a lot dont use it as the goal though.. is my point...
People use it for marriages thats fine (per me)... since its used not as a goal setting process... its just part of the value system not a belief component.
On consciousness and conscience... i'll pass it for now, its way too big a topic at this reference level...

Rudra:
I invite you to speak about what your belief/position vis-a-vis astrology is, instead of talking about immature dependence of others and when it may be better than other forms of such dependence.
My position is that there is no reliable evidence that astrological claims have validity - Dawkins' position is the same. If your position is that am relying on Dawkins, if you go thru that video, you will see and hear him say "You are pretty darn close, but damn wrong" when it comes to the accusation that someone is placing reliance on authority for a position like mine.
When invited to speak about something, suppressing the truth and talking about sun rising in the east, is a form of prevarication. The choice is yours.

One person (me) believes earth revolves around the sun.
Another person believes sun revolves around the earth.
A third person believes both the above are equally valid or invalid beliefs and there aint no difference.
A fourth person believes everything is Maya anyway, except Sat Chit Ananda.
Where do you stand?

Are we controlling motion of the stars or the time of our birth? That is sheer power.
Astrology is not a science, it is an erroneous belief which has been fed to us from past generations that is not founded in fact. The rational walk away from that belief and the gullible believe and perpetrate it. These are the facts - pure and simple.
Chances are strong that if I keep telling my children about karma and rahu and ketu and shani from their childhood, they will believe that and there are strong chances that if I am telling this to my children, that I myself just believe in it because my chacha, kaka, etc told me that. If on the other hand I teach them to question the basis of wild statements and seek answers from facts, data, observations and not from mere statements from some who may have difficulty explaining even erroneously what they believe, then those children will grow up with an inquiring mind that does not blindly accept and has a healthy skeptcism.
