Muslim rule in India....Distorted history

I read that he had a pen-pal sort of relationship with the Sankaracharya of Sringeri Math. If I was a ruler that believed in the supremacy of my religion and I also happen to be a barbarian (more cruel than ISIS, as you put), I would probably take out the leaders of the religion that I consider as non-belivers [sic!], not send them idol of linga for them to worship. Have you read of this relationship? If so, do you have further details to share?

Tipu had stolen a kingdom where less than 5% were Muslims. He had to survive. So Srirangapattana and Sringeri "datti" (grants) were continued. They were always there.

Moreover, Tipu was a bit superstitious too. So when in trouble, he trusted what he was adviced, even if it did not align fully with his Jihadi tendencies.

All one has to do is to read what was written on his sword to understand his ISIS mentality. He was a hard core Jihadi who wrecked havoc in Kodagu and Northern Kerala, that were not a part of his kingdom.

I have thought of starting a thread like this. Thanks for this thread. There is a website tamilhindu.com (yes it is in tamil) talks about atrocities done by Muslim rulers on Hindus. The articles were written in several parts based on the book Islamic Jihad – A Legacy of Forced Convesion, Imperialism and Slavery BY M.A. Khan.

Just a warning, read only if you have strong heart. It is very sad to read and one can easily get mad / angry even today by reading what our people went through the hell of of their life on those periods. I remember having PDF of this book , if I find it I will upload (if possible and if allowed). This book talks about other countries and on Christians too, but there are couple of chapters only on India.

i really wish that all Hindus read this and learn about our bitter history and remember never fall for a foreign rule esp. Muslims.

Kind of late. But wanted to point out, invaders/strong treating the loser badly is nothing new in history. This has nothing to do with religion.

Native americans were decimated by colonists. Same thing happened to native people of south america.

Broadly speaking, I agree with your take. The victor decides what to do with the loser...and if forced religious conversions and torture is what pleases him, then he just gets that. But if you look at ISIS or Al Qaeda or Boko Haram types that has emerged in the last 20 years, they've shown to be extremely ruthless, violent and barbaric with no value for human lives, while the rest of the world has become more liberal, forgiving and civilized with time. With ISIS or Boko Haram types of today in mind, one wonders what their ancestor would've been like, say 500 years ago....you'll be tempted to say, likely even more ruthless, more barbari, though nothing can be said with certainty since versions of history differs depending on source. But in general, historians have not been kind to Muslim invaders, so there is truth to Muslim brutalities in Indian subcontinent, but to what degree can be definitely debated.
