PML Kalyanasundaram - Honorable Minister for Education, Transport, IT, Culture in Pondicherry (Puducherry)
1. A 10th Grade drop-out becomes 'EDUCATION minister' of Pondicherry.
2. He also hold the portfolios of 'IT', 'Transport', etc.
3. He gets a proxy (impersonator) to write his SSLC (10th Grade) supplementary exam on September 29, 2011.

How can a 10th Grade drop-out become 'EDUCATION' Minster? Even if had not used a proxy as some news reports suggest.

This is just plain disgusting!:cry:

Without justifying him or the CM who appointed him, we had a doctor for a health minister, and what a great minister he turned out to be. :))

All ministers in India are simply clueless and rely on bureaucrats to make policies.
If he has good intentions who solves the pain points of access to education for the poor(not the easy political route of reservation), then all is well.
One of the successful CMs of TN Kamraj was not highly educated either, but was instrumental in improving the literacy in TN as he understood the poor kids need food more than school and pushed for mid day school lunch program and after 4 decades of ridicule as a socialist program, now is being implemented nation wide.

.

For a moment I thought you said it sarcastically.

As a union health minister, he was out to kill AIIMS itself to settle personal score with Dr Venugopal, its director.

Look at another chap who is carrying loads of degrees turned out be colorless, tasteles, odourless faceless, spineless wonder reduced to serve the purpose of warming a top chair.

Or another prince whose Mphil is still a mystery.

We are better off with 10th fails as long as he can give leadership..political one.

Most politicians are much much smarter than we give them credit for. However, an average minister is burdened with 100's of tasks totally unrelated to the portfolio he holds. Politicians have literally thousands of close acquaintances each looking for favors. They have to deal with tens of elections that take place in their constituency. They also have 100's of enemies who need to be dealt regularly. And they also have families (rather large) who need their attention.

Expecting a politician to learn everything about the department they boss over (for 5 years or less) is not right. They are going to be dependent on the beurocrats to feed them with the information. A beurocrat who reports to minister is a senior babu whose primary responsibility is to learn whats going on his/her department and then to provide options to his boss. Ministers select one of those options...and usually these decisions are influenced by his perceptions of what his constituency would want.

IMO, its incompetent IxS cadre who screw up policies. Average politician is driven by intangible goals like being popular and being loved by people and he would do anything for that. Whereas average beurocrat is driven by tangible goals such as how to loot India and how to evade work and responsibility.

I consistently rate politicians as better humans than govt officers. Politicians may be ruthless, arrogant, greedy and stupid but their vices are human. Beurocrats, on the other hand are pure evil. Throw them money and see how low they stoop.
