"Usse kuchh farak padega kya?"
Magsaysay Award winning RTI Activist Arvind Kejriwal's interview. Listen to it for nice ideas & revelations

I liked the way he speaks with clarity, information and confidence. I hope his voice doesn't get stunted like many other anti-corruption crusaders. :(

I wish to be in India to join hands.

Power Situation during 1985-86 became extremely critical. The farmers were unable to lift water from the wells inspite of its availability due to insufficient voltage to run pumps. The motors were getting burnt due to fluctuations and the crops were getting affected. There was scant response from the govt. inspite of continuous follow-up. On 28th Nov. 1989 Mr. Hazare was forced to undertake fast for seeking redressal. After 8 days of his fast , his health deteriorated and was admitted in the civil hospital at Ahmednagar. As there was, no response inspite of action from his side, the farmers from three tehsils became furious and they started road block agitation. Fearing that if the agitation takes a wrong turn, something untoward may take place. He appealed to the agitators from the hospital bed that they should not resort to unfair means, damage the national property and inflict any harm to the passengers. The agitation should be peaceful. The police authorities did not expect huge participation and there was meager police force available.
However, they were proved wrong and more than 10000 men and 1200 women participated in the agitation. The agitators had offered police to take them to jail. However, since enough transport was not available with the police, the police tried to remove the road block. Due to improper treatment meted out to the agitators, there was scuffle between police and the agitators and the police resorted to lathi-charged on agitators. This action on the part of police irritated them and they pelted stones on the police force. Since the situation was going out of control, additional force was called and police opened fire on the agitators in which 4 farmers died on the spot and 7 farmers sustained severe injuries. He felt sad on hearing this news in the hospital. The agitation was meant for awakening the government and there is no harm in carrying out such agitations in democracy. He had decided to end his life during the fast itself, but Senior Officials of the government and even Ministers persuaded him to give up his fast as they feared that if agitation continues, lot many farmers may lose their life and in order to save the life of innocent farmers, he withdrew his fast.

I think the awareness about corruption is picking up steam and more people are raising their voice both online and on the ground. More small scale protests are happening nowadays with prominent people like Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal putting more pressure for implementing strong anti-corruption laws. They recently met with the PM http://pmindia.nic.in/lprel.asp?id=1222 , who told them that the Govt does not have time until May to act on any corruption laws. http://indiaagainstcorruption.org/blog/?p=916

Please join the FB page for India Against corruption which is organizing protests in metros and other big cities.

Congress goons can easily quit - they have lot of $$ in Swiss banks to sustain themselves. More money than GDP of India, I guess!

[QUOTE]

* What is the date of the Dandi March II?

Dandi March 2 starts on March 12th in San Diego and ends in San Francisco on March 26th.

* Why is the event named Dandi March II?

Dandi March II is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's Salt Satyagraha, one of the milestones in the history of Indian freedom struggle. It was a 240 mile (390 km) walk from Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad, to the sea coast near the village of Dandi.

Similarly Dandi March II will be a milestone in the India's second freedom movement, this time against corruption. The walk begins on the same day (March 12, 2011) and same distance (240 miles) as the original Dandi March.

* Is anyone walking entire 240 miles?

Six Indians (Jawahar Khambampati, Kewal Parnani, Srihari Atluri, Srinivas Rao, Subhash Karri and Sunil Kumar) are walking the entire 240 miles. Several other volunteers are walking multiple day walks. At any given time during the march, we expect about 50 people to participate in the walk.
It is cold and raining, and people are walking miles.... to show strength against corruption... OK...

With due apologies to Robert Frost - I have hours to sleep before I don't go for a walk in the cold rain... :)

Sometime back I had the statement "Majority of Indians are bastards" in the signature and it did "hurt" the people on the forum, so much so that the Admin issued me a red card. Now if reality hurts, what is the point in discussing such topics? Aren't we hurt now when one of our genetic property is being discussed? On top of it, the secularists on the forum have clearly indicated that they would bear with corruption rather than seeing BJP in power. Let's just accept the plain fact: The corruption is there because we deserve it. We, the most pompous and Hippocratic race on earth, who has the balls to call ourselves Marathas and Jats and Gujjars and Yadavs and fight for reservations, even though we have literally ruled and looted India for last 60 years (and still not achieved anything other than being laughing stock of others), we who have no sense of electing appropriate people and rely on our caste beliefs, we who can not even drive properly on roads should die as early as possible. Forget about the Dandi March, I can join a march to call the british back if somebody wants to arrange it.

Oh, and finally talking about the Dandi March about the so called Mahatma. I just finished a biography on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and was enlightened that the politics played by the Mahatma was nothing, but dirty. He was an arrogant old man with his eye on controlling Congress and was instrumental in frustrating his own followers due to his contradicting decisions regarding freedom struggle. I did have little respect for this character which is now thinning even further.

Probably a Hijack from OP but you might not be reading Hijack thread on regular basis , hence chose to post here.
Don't let one book change your opinion on a historical figure on whom you had respect once. There are many books written from Gandhi's loyalists which portray Bose's decision making in not so kind light. Both were great men and were instrumental in the freedom struggle resulting in India's independence. Were all their decisions correct? No, but they were human and did commit some mistakes in their decision making. In hindsight's 20/20 vision, it's possible for us to point out those mistakes. But they were not given that advantage in real time.

They were not responsible in anyways for the current corruption mess India is in and I am not convinced that BJP will change the current corruption trends. Pramod Mahajan was as corrupt as his Congress counterpart now or in the prev. administration of MMS. Only thing I agree is , atleast the infrastructure projects and Municipal improvements which affect common citizens everyday were better in BJP govt. than Congress. Congress administration is corrupt plus does not care much about its own legacy in improving the nation's infrastructure except Delhi.

Are you trying to say that somehow we Indians are inferior humans? Not true. Most Indians are just like most Americans. They want to earn more money and watch more reality TV.

I do not know why you think that most Indians are bad. I know its a corrupt country but man on the street is not responsible for it. Most of the corruption is done by people who are in the position of power. Top Govt servants and politicians. Both of them are not your average people. Most of the Indians haven't even talked to one of them. Both of them live in a ivory towers with no idea about what real India is. They are too stupid to even understand what their duties are...other than demanding money and lecturing on Gita.

Other day I saw a declaration of tax cuts on 'Vada Pav' by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Now that almost human probably doesn't know Vada pav seller don't pay any taxes and that Vada pav is not sold in restaurants that he frequents or that small restaurants will not cut their prices even if VAT goes to 5% from 12.5%. But I am sure, it must be an IAS officer who must have drafted that 'supersmart' plan and a top guy from Sales Tax department must have approved it. Freaking idiots. Makes me wonder if these politcians have IQ of the red lights on their cars. Less said about the spines of the top govt officers the better. They get their silly crores by translating their boss' silly orders in English.

I think it is a perceptional problem unless you support your view with reliable information.

In my view (perception): BJP is largely a whiteboard with black spots (yediyurappa?) here and there . Congress is dark board and you need microscope to see white spots(Def minister:Antony?)
I need to give some credit to Congress. They created a sustainable corruption model. An ecosystem of corruption. And it is working!.

Do you know how President's office dignity was lowered by these antinationals? .Do you really know Pratibha Patil's credentials?. Do you know the real politics behind Balakrishnan becoming Chief Justice before. Do you know why they insisted on PJ Thomas as CVC? Biggest of all is a llying Prime minister.

The ecosystem is so strong that I wouldnot wonder if UPA comeback to power again using a fraction of black money they made. So the only option now is second freedom movement.
