Hello,

I am originally from Kerala and am planning to return to Kochi in the next two years. I have been in the US for about 10 years now and currently work as Director of Software Development at a company in California. I am interested in knowing the experiences of others who have returned to Kerala if any. Specifically I am interested in getting recommendations on schools (I have a 4 year old), IT Management jobs, good builders/architects (I plan to buy a plot of land and construct a house), good family oriented clubs where I can get memberships etc... Any insight into these aspects as well as anything else that is important from your experience will be appreciated.

Regards

Hi Team,
First of all I am sorry for posting unrelated topic, I am unable to start new thread.
I am planning to return to Kerala within 5-10 years . I have been working in US for past 4 years , though my GC is in process I don’t have any plan to settle in US . Though 5-10 years seems too far , I felt we need proper plan before we take any major decision like this . I am looking for below information:
- Best places to stay in Kerala ? Is Cochin a good option for schooling & permanent residence?
- What all things I can do in advance to avoid problems and additional cost while returning ?
eg; buying a land/ villa etc as the real-estate is becoming too expensive and don’t know if I can afford buying a home after 5-10 years .
- Which is best for NRIs ? Villa / Apartment /Independent house ?
- Any family club where I can join now itself to build contacts ? I am afraid I will lose all contacts returning after a decade .
- Please contact me if you are also sailing in similar boat
- Since I am not from Cochin is it okay for me to adjust ?
- What is your suggestion to build/buy a house now itself in cochin and taking a membership in church as I am planning to visit Kerala at least once a year

Thanks
R2kerala .

My answers in blue below.

r2kerala;407889Hi Team,
First of all I am sorry for posting unrelated topic, I am unable to start new thread.
I am planning to return to Kerala within 5-10 years . I have been working in US for past 4 years , though my GC is in process I don?t have any plan to settle in US . Though 5-10 years seems too far , I felt we need proper plan before we take any major decision like this . I am looking for below information:
- Best places to stay in Kerala ? Is Cochin a good option for schooling & permanent residence? It depends on your situation - job, relatives, school, cultural and shopping activities etc. Kochi and surrounding areas like Aluva are quite popular with R2Is.
- What all things I can do in advance to avoid problems and additional cost while returning ? Decide where you want to live, then purchase your housing that is being constructed now. Normally it takes 2-3 years for completion once the project is announced.
eg; buying a land/ villa etc as the real-estate is becoming too expensive and don?t know if I can afford buying a home after 5-10 years .
- Which is best for NRIs ? Villa / Apartment /Independent house ? In my opinion flat if you only plan to stay there part of the time now. For full time stay villa in a well planned project may be a better choice.
- Any family club where I can join now itself to build contacts ? I am afraid I will lose all contacts returning after a decade . Don't know.
- Please contact me if you are also sailing in similar boat. Yes, I would like to go sailing with you in your sailboat - just kidding.
- Since I am not from Cochin is it okay for me to adjust ? A vast number of new residents in Kochi are not originally from there. You should not have any problem adjusting.
- What is your suggestion to build/buy a house now itself in cochin and taking a membership in church as I am planning to visit Kerala at least once a year. If you want to buy now, buy a flat or villa in well planned project by a reputable builder that is the initial start up stage.

Thanks
R2kerala .
