TreasuryDirect foreign address

I asked Treasury Direct for my I Bond holding whether they accept a foreign address. They told me that they require a valid US address and cannot accept a foreign address. So people who had I Bonds and who R2Ied, what did you do? Also can you encash your paper I bonds in India?

Bunmping - This is a good question, I also need an answer to it if someone has one.
Its weird that they cannot accept foreign addresses. Nothing illegal for an I bond holder to stay outside US!
