Thanks for starting the thread, at this point most married men know not to talk anymore and let the magenta brigade take over the discussion.

thanks for the enlightenment. From now on, my MIL will be my idol. If I can accomplish even half of what she did, I consider myself successful.
Hmmm I wonder how she managed to glue the remote to my husbands hands so well. I could use that idea to accomplish a lot more!

A less interesting quote: Today's sons are earning more than their fathers did, and today's daughters do less work than their mothers did.

Smart men will find a Father-in-law who earns more than him and then marry his daughter. Then, do you care if the daughter does any work at all.

I think the OP may be celebrating the availability of all those helpful machines to do household chores....
Todays daughters are earning more than than fathers; and today's sons can do household chores better than their fathers.

My own thinking is that both men and women are working more than their parents/inlaws
Very few have family support system as older generations have in India
I have seen more men working in kitchen and doing dishes and more women going out to work and earn money to support better life style.
But
Still not sure If Rama was lucky to have Sita or Sita was lucky to have Ram.

Dicky_Bird;410128......Still not sure If Rama was lucky to have Sita or Sita was lucky to have Ram.
Acc. to the story, Sita didn't have any options... She could'a married an IT guy, and moved away; instead she had to marry someone with a local job and landed property. He wasn't all that bright. He gave up rights to ancestral property rather easily; should'a taken the step mother to court. Overall, Sita drew bad cards; and eventually she had to put herself through tough trials, because the husband was rather dense. A good lesson for future generations. Glad that the story is being taught to all kids in desh.

OP, that is very enlightened behavior.... but I am not sure Shyam or Gita would go for that.
After the enactment of the rights to gays in NY, I heard the names of the pair "Ram & Shyam" from a desi friend. She couldn't explain who this Shyam is and if there is a story like Ramayana behind this married couple. During the discussion I also heard of another desi pair called "Sita aur Gita", that too was equally perplexing. No myths, legends or stories behind either of these pairs. Why not ?
