Can you tell us why you want to get rid of it? I use it and it consumes a lot if cpu cycles but it really works. Couple of times it recovered from virus attacks. In my experience it is better than Symantec.

I have been using AVG for several years, no virus attack yet.
It is also on my dearie's computer and she is obviously not very careful, but no problems yet.

I have tried several free antivirus programs and have been using AVAST free for the last couple of years.Avast is not a memory hog and the scans are extremely fast.It also has automatic updates which is rare in free software.Very satisfied with this freebie.I also use Superantispyware free edition and spywareblaster for extra protection.Try these .you may like them.

Try Microsoft Security Essentials. I uninstalled my McAfee and have installed it. It work well. It is also free, the only thing to note is that you need a genuine copy of Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Same here.. I use AVG for the last one year, and no problems so far. It is free and doesn't hog the system at all unlike the expensive commercial products (they consume lot of CPU cycles as well as money).
