Handheld gaming - Nintendo or PSP way??

Post by poofygoogle »

My son just turned 9 and I am totally confused which handheld gaming device to buy. I started researching on the web and got more confused. So looking to the forum for help.

Initally I was toggling between PS3 vs Kinect and then decided Handheld mobile gaming is better to have esp. during travel.

Now comes the confusion. I started out with PSP and the models PSP1000, 2000, 3000 , PSP Slim and then PSP Go and now its PSP2 or otherwise called NGP (next generation portable). Heard PSP Go was too slow and PSP Slim or PSP3000 is the way to go. I gave up and went towards Nintendo. Starts with DS, then DSlite, then DSi, DsiXl and now 3DS. I prefer connection to Internet with Wifi connection with parental controls feature and also connect to other friends for him to play. Should I go the PSp way or Nindento way and if so which model to choose?

I hope I dont start a debate but really require your honest feedback and inputs. thanks

I would suggest buying an ipad at this time. I think smartphones/tablets have really made devices like PSP redundant. ipad will have many other uses including as a ereader, web browser and many more. Little more investment, but well worth it and family fun is guaranteed. PSP games may cost you but apple store has a lot of free games for ipad. I won't be surprised if they take these devices off the shelf in the US in the next few years and replace all these with tablets.

Handheld gaming - Nintendo or PSP way??

Like OP, looking for a handheld game for a boy. Need one that is portable (to take on vacation and around town). If we already have an iphone and ipad, is a Nintendo DSi totally redundant or is there some use of buying one? I might get a new one for under $125, and looks like a good deal. Thx.
