Moderator's note: Unlocking - how, where and/or what is it mean? SIM card, CDMA - what is the difference These and other mobile/cell phone question are frequently asked. Let's dedicate this thread as the FVT to keep the information easily accessible. The following threads in the MSN R2IClub may be of some assistance: Unlocking Cell Phoneunlocking cellphoneMotoral Razr PhoneUnlocked GSM cellphone for India Thanks_________________________ Hi,
I am trying to use my motorola razr in india with an Indian sim card. It does not work. please help me resolve this issue.
I was using this phone in USA and the service provider was tmobile.
I have unlocked the sim card as per Tmobile's instructions. The phone shows no errors. I am unable to make and receive calls with the the new sim cards. I tried other sim cards. None worked. I tried this sim card in other phones, it works in them.
Is there any network specific setting that I have to change in order to use the razr with an indian sim card? My service provider in india is airtel.
Regards,
SK

Motorola Razr works in India. I do not know about T-Mobile's instructions to unlock but, there would be plently of shops in India that would do that the way required for India. They charge around Rs.200/- for that.

Hi,
Thanks for the replay. I took it to a mobile phone store and he gave me an estimate of abt Rs 1500 for installing some software into the phone.
Do I take it to a airtel shop? Would you know anything about the radio frequency band that Indian service providers use? I was told by tmobile that I may have to change that to Indian setting. I don't know the number.

I don't know about that but, my brother got his done during his trip to Hyderabad last year. If you are going to Hyderabad, I could ask him for the location and post.

Thanks,
I figured how to get it to work. indian mobiles use a radio frequency band of 900/1800. I had to change the setting - network - network settings to use manual type and 900/1800 band. The cell immediately registered to airtel network and I was able to make and receive calls.

Call up T-Mobile and tell them you are travelling out of country and you want to use the phone and ask them to send you the phone unlock code. They will e-mail the code, then you can unlock your phone. Then when you goto India, just buy a pre-paid SIM put it in your phone, then you can use it without any issues.
