This may seem like a stupid question for all the IT folk here. One of the friends has this website for his highly successful practice in OHIO.

http://www.daytonir.com/

I want to create a similar website for myself for the services I would be offering in India, I do similar range of procedures( maybe a few more), I would of course have indian patients happy faces on the website.

So here are the questions.

1. How easy or hard is it to create a website for a novice like me.

2. I would also have some youtube video links of my procedures.

3. I own a macbook pro with safari, is making websites any easier on the mac platform.

4. how much would a professional charge for such a service? if I wanted to just sit back and sip on some sangria

5. I mean i have the skeleton charts of all the procedures and how the scroll downs should look like.

if this question is too stupid, feel free to ignore it(sigh i fell like tyrannosaurus rex).

It is not difficult at all. When you are in India, call couple of college kids to do it for you.
It will be inexpensive.

Go to godaddy.com and buy a domain name first. This usually takes time, because most of the names that you like for your website would have been already taken.

As RRK said college kids also can do a web site. I myself run a web application company(30+ people),
normally with CMS and eCommerce i.e little bigger budget one.
Admin, If you think this is violation of COC delete it.
Thanks.

Raj, do you need a discussion board(like R2I club) or a website where you can control the contents, other than users sending query using contact link or some thing of that sort?

If it is a discussion board, there are many open source and free tools available including vBulletin(VB is not free) which R2I club is using. Just google on free message board software. Once you decide the software/tool then you can go for registering the domain.
You may want to spend time understaning what is a domain and all. In simple words it is rajradio.com or rajradio.org or rajradio.au OR raradio.in.
If you are going for free tools they will add their domain name in the url ex: rajradio.vbulletin.in(just an example)

I suggest, you try some free tools and once you get a concrete idea on how your site should look like and what is the purpose of your site, go for a prefessional web site designers.
Good luck!

What is what I did first and then hired a freelancer who did the graphics and page design.

I try to update it as and when needed but I am planning to hire some part time website manager moving forward. Too much work to keep updating the website.

This is not violation of COC. There is no harm telling other members what you are doing, if that is helpful to them. One should not go on posting in all the posts a business link and tout their business. That is violation of COC. Currently only sponsors of this forum are allowed to advertise their business in discussion forum.

I am in a very similar situation as you. for long i thought a physician should not/need not have things like website etc, which may be akin to/ surrogate advertising which may be technically unethical, especially if views of senior doctors are to be valued.
how ever of late i found it time consuming to explain a lot of patient's (justified) questions about their condition, my experience, background info, etc.
So having decided to take the plunge some time back, decided to take the 'do it yourself' route, but have not progressed. So decided to take the help of a professional web designer, who is at it, this very moment!
Surprisingly, he says most of our 'natural' and preferred domain names are available, as he says in our fields, competition for the same is very less. (I found only a single digit number of my speciality docs have their own websites).
The real challenge i think is in making the website an active one, with dynamic and constantly updated useful content, and making it interactive, which means a significant demand on one's time.
Also do remember to link it to FB (professional page), twitter or other rapidly exploding social media.:)

thanks one and all,

1. sumeet how much does a pro charge and how long does it take.

2. my roots, the website is mostly informative, with my background and detailed explanation of procedures, and contact details. not much of a blog, but it should be heavy on visual content, like happy faces, pictures of peoples legs, and images should b e on a 'roll' even when someone is not doing much on the website.

3. we need links to fb, twitter,
